1st Quarter is already over!  Wow, how time flies!  Grade cards will go home next week.   

STUCO Carnival - Tomorrow from 12:00 - 3:00 pm behind the ROC - There will be lots of fun games, a petting zoo, a train for students to ride in, as well as concession stand goodies.  The weather looks great, so plan to come and enjoy some great food and fellowship!!   

2nd Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest - Thank you to all of our families for once again making our pumpkin decorating contest such a huge success.  We had 14 entries this year, and they were all amazing!!  Our three judges looked long and hard at each one; our winners are as follows:  1st place - Leon (owl)   2nd place - Furrey/Luvin (cupcake)     3rd place - Rehmer (R2-D2)         

Immediate Athletic Openings - We have openings for an athletic secretary as well as Athletic Director that need to be filled as soon as possible.  Applewood is blessed to have such a great sports program with outstanding athletes and coaching staff.  Many serving in our athletic department are home school parents or ACS families that are already serving in many other areas at our school.  We are asking that ALL of our families be in prayer to see if this is an area that God would call YOU to serve.  You do not need to have a child involved in our athletic program to fill these positions.  If you would like additional information about either of these positions, please contact the office.  

Fall Sports Banquet - Monday, October 31st @ 6:30 pm in the ROC - Please bring a dessert to share - This is a very special evening designed to honor our athletes and recognize their accomplishments.  

School Picture Day - November 4th in the morning - This year Mrs. Brenda Nevels will be taking our school pictures - order forms are going home today or Monday.   

Thanksgiving Feast - November 23rd (1/2 day of school) - Additional information will go home with students the last week of October - In addition to the meal, Mrs. Leon is once again helping our K - 8 students prepare a skit or musical piece to share.  She is needing to know who is not planning to be here that day so she can plan accordingly.  Please let her know as soon as possible.

School Picture Day - November 4th in the morning - This year Mrs. Brenda Nevels will be taking our school pictures - we will send home ordering information as soon as it is made available to us.   

Reboot Combat Recovery - Once again our ACS families have proven to be very generous and kind in their giving.  We were able to raise $142 during our senior recognition game to be donated to Reboot Combat Recovery to service our military men and women suffering with PTSD.    

Soccer Senior Recognition - Today @ 4:45 - Come help us recognize and encourage our senior soccer players and cheer loudly for your Applewood Mustang soccer team!!

Basketball Meeting - October 6th @ 6:30 pm in the ROC - This is an informational meeting for all students in grades 6th - 12th that are interested in playing basketball for ACS this year.  If you are interested in playing but are unable to attend the meeting, please contact Brad Collier (high school boys), Larry Ward (girls), or Jon Hill (junior high boys).  Their contact information is in the school phone directory.    

Spirit Week – Monday (Oct. 3):  Crazy hair, hats, and PJ’s  Wednesday, (Oct. 5): Each grade wear the same color or dress up as your favorite occupation or dress up as your favorite character  Friday (Oct. 7): Black out day – dress in all black  Monday (Oct 10): Red/Black/White – Show your school pride!!

Parent Teacher Conference - Mark your calendars now for October 10th at 6:00 pm in the ROC - Parents, this is an important night where you have an opportunity to sit down with each teacher and discuss the growth (academic, social, behavior) of your child.  This is also a perfect opportunity for parents to encourage our teachers.  We look forward to seeing each of you there!!  Soccer Families....you have a game scheduled for this day.  Plan to attend immediately following the game.  

Military Appreciation - For the past several years, the volleyball team has chosen to dedicate their senior night to raising money for a worthy cause.  This year they have elected to honor our military by collecting donations to be given to an organization called Reboot Combat Recovery.  This organization is a 12 week faith-based combat trauma healing course that is designed to address the spiritual wounds of war.  You can look up more information at Rebootrecovery.com or watch the following videos:             https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqZp5UdKTBs     https://YouTube/watch?v=rgwkpMHnb_8  Plan to come and help support such a great cause.  We would like to have a special time that evening to honor our attendees who are currently serving and those who have served by reading their names, branch of service, and years served.  Thank you to ALL who are or have served in our armed forces.

Family Club Back to School Party - Thank you Family Club for providing such a special evening of fellowship last night for all our families.  Many of you came and enjoyed a meal and great conversation.  Applewood is very much a 'family', and it's always a great time when we can spend time with one another.   

First day of school - All parents are welcome and encouraged to stay for opening on the first day of school.  I would love to fill the room and pray over our students and the upcoming school year.  Please have students here by 8:00.  Opening will begin at 8:10.   

Kickoff - September 1st @ 6:30 in the ROC - We are hoping to change kickoff a bit this year and are looking forward to a great evening of fellowship.  We will have kickoff this year in the ROC and we would love to see ALL families in attendance.  This is a great opportunity to meet your teachers, meet any new families/students, and see your classrooms.  This year Kelley Bergman (curriculum coordinator) plans to have a table set up to check out all solutions manuals for next year.  We will also have a table set up for each student to bring in their office supplies for next year and check them in.  Please remember to label all supplies such as copy paper, cleaning spray, paper towels, etc. with your last name and 2016.  This helped us a great deal when we checked our supply inventory over the summer.  Family Club will have a table set up for families to join, buy Scrip cards, and ask any questions.  Please remember to bring your check book and insurance cards that evening as well.  We look forward to seeing each of you!  

School Supply List - Lists have been emailed.  If you did not receive yours, please feel free to give us a call.  If you do not bring your supplies to kick off, they may be brought the first day of school.  Please be sure you do not just drop them off and leave without checking them in.  

Parent Jobs - If you have not signed up yet for your parent jobs, please do so soon.  All families need to be signed up to fulfill a minimum of 3 points by September 1.  If you have not signed up by September 1, your school board representative will contact you and help you get signed up.

Summer Reading Program - If your child participated in the summer reading program, please remind them bring their reading minutes on the first day of school.  

Tuition - If you have not paid September's tuition yet, please contact the office and make arrangements with Mrs. Otten to do that immediately.

Parent Jobs - Most of our families have selected parent jobs for next year; however, we still have several families that have not yet met their 3 point minimum.  If you are a family that needs to select additional jobs to satisfy your 3 points, please make your selection(s) as soon as possible.  Mrs. Otten is our parent job coordinator, so if you have any questions about a particular job or need additional information, feel free to send her an email.  A special 'thank you' to each family for your sacrificial service.  You are appreciated!! 

Summer Reading Program - If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our summer reading coordinator, Jennifer Bessert.  This is a great opportunity to help motivate our students to explore so many areas of interest through reading and encourage them to use their imaginations.

Summer Bulletin - I will be publishing a monthly bulletin over the summer months rather that weekly bulletins.  Please be sure to stay up to date by regularly checking the event calendar on the website for all the latest meetings and events.     

Book Fees - Book fees are $165 per student and are due on May 10th in lieu of tuition 

Tuition - September's tuition is due by June 10th - 2016/2017 tuition per month is $160 per child with a $40 family charge - 2016/2017 tuition per month: 1 student ($200); 2 students ($360); 3 students ($520)

Parent Jobs - We have revised the parent job list and cleared out last year's information.  Please look the list over as soon as possible and make your selections as jobs will go quickly.  We, once again, ask that each family only sign up for 3-5 points until everyone has had an opportunity to look over the list and make their choices.  Once everyone has made their selections we will open it up to families to choose more if they are interested.  A special 'thank you' to each family for your sacrificial service.  You are appreciated!! 

Summer Office Hours - Once again, in an effort to maximize our time with our families, Mrs. Furrey and I plan to have regular office hours this summer.  This will allow us to hopefully leave school at school and not have family activities interrupted with phone calls.  If you have a question, concern, or just want to visit about something, please try to use these office hours so we can fully focus on meeting your needs.  We plan to be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the hours of 10:00 and 3:00.

I love that this particular verse popped up today as the 'verse of the day'.  In this busy season of graduations and end of year craziness, we are instructed to quiet our soul and know that God is in control.  What an amazing God we serve!!

Family Club Officers- There will be 2 openings for family club officers for next school year- If you are interested in learning more or applying for secretary or treasurer please see Mrs. Bessert.  The next Family Club meeting is scheduled for May 11th @ 3:15.

Lost and Found - Please check out our lost and found to see if anything looks familiar.  All unclaimed items will be donated to Open Door on May 14th.   

Benjamin Franklin Reenactment - Each family is cordially invited to attend a free Benjamin Franklin reenactment at Applewood Christian School on Friday, May 6th beginning at 1:30 pm in the church sanctuary.  This event is scheduled to last around 45 minutes and the funding is made possible through a grant provided by The Missouri Arts Council and with the assistance of the Sedalia Heritage Foundation.  The program is titled: A Conversation with Ben.  To better suit the needs of our performer, we are asking that parents RSVP if you plan to attend.  You may reserve your spot by calling the school office at 827-4700 or emailing us at acsmustangs@applewoodweb.net.  We look forward to this event and wish to offer a very special thank you to Mrs. Jill White on working so hard to secure the funding to make this possible for our ACS families.      

Graduations - Senior Graduation:  Saturday, May 7th @ 2:00 pm in the ROC   Kindergarten Graduation:  Tuesday, May 10th @ 6:30 pm in the sanctuary - All of our families are invited and encouraged to attend as we celebrate the accomplishments of these students.    

Book Fees - Book fees are $165 per student and are due on May 10th in lieu of tuition

Bookmobile - Bookmobile's final visit for the school year will be May 11th - Please be sure to have all Bookmobile books here that day to turn in.

Last Day of School - Friday, May 13th - Clean up Day - Parents are welcome to come out and help - The plan is for students to be done and ready for pickup at 10:30, but please be advised that if things take longer than expected that time could be delayed.   

Book Turn In / Grade Card Pickup - Wednesday, May 18th from 9:00 - noon - All non-consumable books must be returned (including solutions manuals) and all fees including Scrip money owed must be paid before we can release grade cards - If you are unsure about any outstanding balances, feel free to contact the office.
