    Hello ACS,

Well, here we are beginning second semester! I am excited to begin this year anew! As we make our resolutions and goals for the New Year, I pray we continue to focus on Christ. At school, we strive to emphasize Christian character and integrity as much as education. I am so proud of all our students! Even today, someone commented on how well our kids get along – all ages, all grades! It is so fun to watch them interact. I invite you to visit anytime to see the great young men and women God is developing here at Applewood.

Basketball season is in full swing. If you have been looking at the scores posted on the events calendar, you will see that our teams have been doing quite well. I encourage you to come catch a game before the season ends!

    Greetings, ACS!

Are you a trader? This was a question put to us this week at chapel by Mrs. Kjar. I found it quite interesting to consider; am I willing to trade my “me” attitude for Christ? Are we willing to sacrifice all to serve Christ wherever we find ourselves? This year’s focus in chapel is learning to serve Christ as a missionary in all situations. Our key verse is Isaiah 64:8, “Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”  What a wonderful concept for us all to live by! We invite you to attend a chapel service whenever possible!
Congratulations to our junior high girls’ volleyball team! They finished their season play undefeated with their only loss in their tournament! Our junior high co-ed soccer team and junior varsity girls’ volleyball team also finished the season well. Please remember our varsity soccer and volleyball teams as they are in Springfield for the National Home School Tournament. Finally, our fall sports awards night is Tuesday, October 25. We invite everyone to join us as we recognize our fall sports athletes!
Finally, I want to remind everyone of a couple of up-coming events. Don’t forget the 5K Costume Walk/Run Fundraiser on Saturday, October 29. It’s not too late to participate. Also, our fundraising dinner is just 2 weeks away. Be checking your red folders as more information will be forthcoming. Thank you!!

    Hello ACS,
We are just 3 weeks away from our Annual Fundraiser dinner. I encourage each family to be prayerfully seeking and asking their guests to attend. Each family’s guest list is due Friday, October 21, in order to have an accurate count for the caterer. The funds we raise this year will be going to purchase new computers for our school. We have some very lofty goals depending on the funds raised. Not only are we hoping to improve what is available in the ROC for the office and grades 5-12, but we are also looking into getting equipment for the elementary school!
Today is the deadline to register early for the 5K Costume Walk/Run Fundraiser benefitting the Costa Rica Mission Trip. Your child should have received a registration form in their red folder on Wednesday. I encourage everyone to try and participate; it should be a fun event for the entire family.

Costa Rica Mission Trip – We would like your feedback! The Costa Rica Mission Trip is considering a fundraiser similar to the Cupid’s Ball which is held in Sedalia every February. It would be a Father/Daughter dance for daughters of all ages. Is this something you would consider supporting? Please send all comments/questions to Paula Crosier at crosierclan@msn.com.

Student Council Shirts – The student council has a few older design t-shirts for sale at a reduced price. There is 1 red long sleeve tee - youth size L – which is last year’s design. Also, there are 2 white XL short sleeve adult tees with a design from 3-4 years ago. The price is $3, first come, first serve. Contact Lisa Cloud if you’re interested. A new design is in the works and will be available soon.

Relay for Life Corn Maze – Jester’s, south of Lincoln, will be having 2 corn mazes beginning this weekend and going thru the month of October. This is a Relay for Life corn maze and part of the ticket price will be sent to the American Cancer Society. Also, our 8th grade families will be working these mazes to raise funds for Boston. Hours are Saturday, 1-6 pm, and Sunday, 2-5 pm. Cost is $8 for 1 maze or $10 for an all day pass to both. Also, each corn maze ticket will receive a free game of bowling with shoes.

Picture Day - Friday, October 28. Siblings are welcome to come early that day and also get pictures taken; forms will be sent home a few weeks before. We will also be having eye exams given that day by Dr. John Drenon. This is for all students who are not athletes as they receive eye exams the night of their sports physicals.

    Hello ACS,
We are very proud of our sport teams and fans at ACS. They continue to put forth their best effort and sportsmanship. I am going to be posting the scores for each game as the coaches send them to me. Hopefully, each day after a game, you will be able to go to the event calendar, click on a game, and see the score. This was a great suggestion from one of our faithful fans who cannot always attend a game but is very interested in our teams. Thanks, Mr. Tankersley! Also, we wish our JV volleyball team good luck as they are hosting a tournament here Saturday!
We are just 4 weeks away from our Annual Fundraiser dinner. I encourage each family to be prayerfully seeking and asking their guests to attend. The funds we raise this year will be going to purchase new computers for our school. We have some very lofty goals depending on the funds raised. Not only are we hoping to improve what is available in the ROC for the office and grades 5-12, but we are also looking into getting equipment for the elementary school!

Boston Fundraisers - ACS stainless steel, travel coffee mugs and ASC water resistant, sporting cinch sacks. The travel mugs are $7 and the cinch sacks are $15. Please see an 8th grade student if you would like to place an order. They will be selling these items until Oct. 14. Also, the candy bars and beef jerky for sale in the office are Boston fundraiser items. Thank you from all of the 8th grade families!!

Relay for Life Corn Maze – Need something fun to do this fall?? Jester’s, south of Lincoln, will be having 2 corn mazes beginning this weekend and going thru the month of October.

Lost and Found – We are once again beginning to accumulate various jackets, shirts, etc. Parents, please check in the office for missing items. Also, please mark all items for your child, this way we can always find the owner.  Thank you!
