Hello ACS,
Well, our year is almost finished. We sadly said good-bye
to our seniors on Wednesday. It is amazing how fast the year has flown. We look
forward to seeing them graduate tomorrow!
Our last day of school is Friday, May 11, and will be a
half day. We will be finishing the day at 11:30 am; we will not be having lunch
that day. On that day, we will be incorporating our year-end clean up during
the morning. Please have your kids dress in clothes that you do not mind
getting dirty or wet. (Please still follow the school’s dress code.) After
cleaning, as time permits, kids will also be playing games outside and this may
include water games if weather allows. For parents with students in grades
5-11, we will be canceling our additional clean up day which was scheduled for
Thursday, May 17.
On Friday, May 18, we will be handing out grade cards and
collecting all textbooks. Please have your child look through all textbooks to
erase any marks, etc. If your book is a
workbook or has your child’s name written on the front, it is consumable and
yours to keep.
Last Day of School – Begin with opening and Bible classes as usual; then
each student reports to their classroom to do regular Friday clean-up. At 9:30
am, Mrs. Patton will take K-4th grade outside to play games. At
10:30 am, the 5th-7th grade will join Mrs. Patton to play
outside games. After all year-end clean up jobs are completed, the 8th
-11th grade will join Mrs. Patton outside. All students need to be
picked up at 11:30 am.
Independent Studies: For any students who plan do to an independent study
over the summer, the Academic Committee needs your paperwork by May 16 before 2

Hello ACS,
Graduations are quickly approaching! Tuesday, May 8, is
our Kindergarten Graduation; a wonderful time to celebrate with our
kindergarten families. Saturday, May 5, at 2 pm is our Senior Graduation! Each
family received an invitation to this graduation in their red folders. Please
plan now to celebrate with us!
At this time, I would like to remind all our parents and
new student drivers to please watch your speed in the parking lots. We have had
a few complaints of fast drivers. I appreciate your caution in this matter as
we would hate for something serious to happen.
Recognizing Teachers: Each year we
recognize retiring teachers. This year we are asking to “shower” our retirees
with a card shower, expressing your appreciation for what they have contributed
to our school. An e-mail was sent out this afternoon with details concerning
this recognition. If you have any questions, please call the office, 827-4700.
The following teachers are
retiring: Pam Breid, Melissa Bussey, Debbie Cormican, Kristin DeGraffenreid,
Gina Kjar, Darla Lansing, Fran Merkh, and Andrea Self.
K-4 Parents: In getting ready for the dramas for Kindergarten graduation, Mrs.
Sparks is requesting all props to be brought to school by Wednesday, May 2.
Thank you!
Independent Studies: For any students who plan do to an independent study
over the summer, the Academic Committee needs your paperwork by May 16 before 2
pm to receive approval. Thank you!

sportsmanship, and safety. Also, Monday evening at 7 pm will be the Sports

Parent / Teacher Conferences: I am sorry for any confusion this may have caused! We
changed the date in October as soon as we discovered there was a conflict. It
has also been posted in the bulletin for the last several weeks. The date
change was due to the regional basketball tournament date change. It is no
longer Mar 8 and will be Mar 13 at 6 pm. We will be handing out 3rd
quarter grade cards at this time also.

Heckart Science and Allied Health Center on the SFCC campus. There is no

Hello ACS,
Well, third quarter officially ends today and fourth
quarter begins Monday. It is hard to believe that the school year is winding
down. As one teacher informed me, we only have 26 days left of
teaching/in-school days. I must say that overall it has been a wonderful year
at ACS.
It is also the time of year we begin preparing for
testing, drama production, and graduations! Today is the beginning of after
school drama rehearsals as they begin preparing for “Meet Me at Luigi’s”, an
Italian dinner theater production. Please set the date aside on your calendars
as this will prove to be a very entertaining evening. Also, the time for senior
graduation has been set; it will be a 2 pm.
The week of testing is the first week in April this year.
During this week, students in grades 2-11 will be attending school Monday thru
Wednesday in the mornings only. Students in grades K-1 will not be in school at
all this week; they will complete their testing earlier during their regular
class times. This is also the week beginning our Easter break. Additionally,
students in grades 3, 7, and 9 will be completing cognitive testing on Tuesday,
March 27, in the morning. We will be sending home more information as the time
draws closer. However, if you have questions now, please feel free to call the
office anytime, 827-4700!
Parent / Teacher Conferences: Please be aware of a date change due to the regional
basketball tournament date change. It is no longer Mar 8 and will be Mar 13 at

Hello ACS, February
15, 2012
I begin this week’s bulletin on a personal note to
explain why the bulletin is posted on a Wednesday and not a Friday. Some of you
may know that my husband and I travel to Mardi Gras each year. (Yes, I did say
Mardi Gras!) My father-in-law has been leading mission trips there for over 30
years; my husband, Jon, has been assisting him for 14 years. This will be my
fifth year to be a part of the team.
Not only will I be attending, but Mrs. Sparks, Mrs.
Bussey, Mr. and Mrs. Cloud and others from Katy Park Baptist Church and
Cornerstone Baptist Church will be traveling with us. We will join several
others of our team in Branson, MO and Grenada, MS. We will be leaving early
Friday morning and returning late Wednesday night. Your prayers would be
greatly coveted. Please pray for safety, health, and softened hearts. Thank you
so much!
It is wonderful to be in a workplace that understands
Christian ministry and missions, and actually encourages it! As with
encouraging missions, please don’t forget to support the Costa Rica mission
team Tuesday night at El Tapitio.
Snow Days/ One Calls: Everything seemed to go very smoothly for our first
snow day. If you did not receive the one call, please call the office so that
we can double check our one call roster.
Sick Days/ Appointments: We have had several out the last month with the
strain of flu circulating the city. This is just a reminder to please call the
office in the morning to let us know if your child will be out sick or leaving
early or arriving late. Thank you! This just helps us in the office coordinate
with teachers for your child’s school work.
Valentine Party: Thank you to Jesters for allowing us to celebrate Valentine’s Day
there! Also, thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Nunes and all the other adults for
helping this day be a huge success.
Costa Rica Mission Trip Fundraiser: Tuesday, February 21 at El Tapitio from 5:00-9:00 pm;
they will receive 10% of all sales. Come support our high school students who
are going to Costa Rica this year.

Hello ACS,
First off, let me say thank you to all who prayed for our
Mardi Gras mission trip. We consider it a huge success as we witnessed two
salvations and hundreds of seeds planted. It has once again sparked my heart
for missions right here in our own backyard. May God continue to use us all as
ambassadors for His Word.
Second, I would like to remind everyone about our Scrip
Card fundraiser for the year. The Family Club has been trying this program in
order to eliminate our need to “sell”. It has not generated the needed response
or funds, as of yet. I encourage everyone to please do their part to support
our school’s fundraising.
Finally, thank you to all who took the time to fill out
our vision survey. I will be compiling a report for the board this month. If
you have not turned in one, please do so by Monday.
Summer Learning Opportunities: As information for summer activities come across my
desk, I will be passing the information on to our families; you never know who
may be interested!
State Fair Community College
will again offer Kids College, featuring fun, interactive courses for children
from kindergarten through eighth grade. Classes will meet in June and July on
the Sedalia campus. Some of the featured classes include Back Yard Olympics,
Lego® Robotics, Lights! Camera! Action! and Mad Scientist Lab; more classes
will be added throughout the spring. Class sizes are limited. The complete

As for news, we have 3 very different but important

discussed. If you have any questions regarding the school board, please call
your board representative or our board president, Jennifer Boatright at
826-1880.
Finally,
Saturday is our annual school carnival. The student council does a fantastic

Hello ACS,
Spirit Days! During any sports season, we like to
encourage our teams by having spirit days. If our team has a home game on a
Friday, we celebrate by wearing our ACS gear or our school colors – red, black,
and white. For the rest of January, each Friday will be a spirit day. Also,
Friday, Jan 20, we will be recognizing our senior basketball players during
their games. Come on out and support our ACS teams!
Bookmobile:
The bookmobile returns Wednesday, Jan 18th. If your child has books
at home, please remember to return them by Wednesday. Also, we are missing The Door Within by Wayne Thomas Batson
and The Nervous System by Helen
Frost. If you could please ask your child if they have seen these books, we
would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

SFCC to sponsor free ‘Love and Logic’ workshop:
State Fair Community College
will sponsor a workshop for families Jan. 19 discussing “Love and Logic,” a
philosophy of raising and teaching children that allows adults to be happier,
feel empowered and be more skilled in interactions with children. The two-hour
“Workshop on Wheels” will meet from 6-8 p.m. in Thompson Conference Center in
the Heckart Science and Allied Health Center on the SFCC campus. There is no charge.
Registration deadline is Jan. 16. The ‘Love and Logic’ philosophy teaches a way
of working with children that puts parents and teachers back in control,
teaches children to be responsible and prepares young people to live in the
real world with choices and consequences. This is the same discipline
philosophy that Mr. Jeff White used while a vice-principal at ACS. For more
information or to register, call Sarah Williams, continuing education
coordinator, at (660) 530-5822 or e-mail swilliams19@sfccmo.edu. Registration
details are also available at www.sfccmo.edu/workshoponwheels. The course is
sponsored by SFCC’s office of Lifelong Learning.
