For this week we will be doing the following things in Reading and Number Skills. Please adjust to your own schedules and work as time allows: READING: We are on our last book in reading, and should be through all of the Phonic Stories! Please practice this last book, as it is an overview of the sounds your student has learned this year. As for the Phonic Stories, please read the last 5-6 stories for greater comprehension of our new word families. One day please have your child pick out their favorite stories from their folder and read them to you. On Friday, please read a new story to your student, and then question them for comprehension of what they heard. It is important to understand, as well as read! Number Skills: If you have not already done so, do pages 159-164. Our book is finished! Hooray for the students and parents! As the final assignment for our Kindergarten year, I have given you the packets containing the personal Newspaper for each student. Please help and encourage them as they fill out this booklet, and place in the clear file folder that came with it. I hope they will enjoy making these as a keepsake for their Kindergarten year! I will be contacting each of you to check in and listen to the stories being read. Have a great week, stay safe! Blessings, Mrs. States

Dear Parents, Your child's homework for Monday went home in their folder with the Tuesday and Thursday homework. Please do each day's work as the day arrives, and not all the work at once. The students will absorb more by working a little each day. Since the new concept of Miss Silent and Miss Long working together has been introduced, they all have done very well. If they need a hint, remind them of these characters, and they will quickly recognize the new long vowel sound. Please have your student write the alphabet, both uppercase, and lowercase, using the correct starting and stopping place, as well as the correct spacing. Have your child go slowly, and neatly. Reading: They each have Book 26, and they need to work on the most recent Phonic Stories . Also, review five of the stories that we have previously had, and review all our service words, making sure each one is known. Number Skills: 1) Review different times on a clock 2) Review coins, especially the quarter, nickel and dime. Stay safe and warm! Mrs. States

1. Phonics: We continue to wok on the long vowel sounds. Today, we cover the long "i" sound. Practice words in the "ine" and "ike" family. Remind your student where Marker e and Miss long are positioned over the vowels. Some words include: nine, pine, line, mine, vine, fine, shine, or like, bike, Mike, trike, strike, hike. Review these until the concept is understood, and your student can come up with long "i" words for themselves. 2. Handwriting: Write 5 sentences for your student without putting the spaces in, such as: Thesunwillshine!. Have your student rewrite them, putting the spaces in the correct place. Emphasize how important the spaces are to help a sentence make sense and be understood by a reader. 3. Hearing the sounds: Have your student point to themselves if they hear the long "i" sound in these words as you give them to them verbally: like, shine, tin, pine, fin, fine, tire, date, wire, mine, win. 4. Reading: Reading book 24 "Like the Snow" and the phonics stories. Read the newest phonics stories and review 5 older stories. Practice the book 24 an extra amount of time, as we will need to start book 25 on Friday. Go over the service words in the Phonic Stories notebook. 5. Number skills: Subtraction and addition, do 15 problems, mixing them up, making sure your student pays attention to the symbols. Hello again, Parents! I am sure your students are missing school as much as you and I are! Our safety and warmth are important during this hard winter, though, so we will make do until this lets up! We will get back into our daily worksheets next week.

Write 5 sentences using our service words. 3. Reading: Book 22 AND the Phonic Stories. Read our most current stories, and read at least 7 from the past lessons. 4. Number Skills: Please continue to work on the concept of subtraction. Use both written problems, and use physical items, such as buttons, toothpicks, crayons or small items, both adding nd subtracting. Give your child 5 word problems verbally and have your child write the problem out, with the answer, and correct symbol. 5. Science: Ask your child what a Botanist does. Does a seed have a coat? What does vascular (veins) and non vascular (no veins) mean in a plant? What is the midrib? What 3 things does a plant need to grow? They have started on their lap books and are enjoying making them. I hope to see you all on Monday, have a safe and warm weekend! Mrs. States
