April 6th and 8th homework

This week's lessons are about planting a garden, plants, and seeds.  We have talked about seeds in Science, ask your child about the coat a seed wears.

The new sounds for this week are:  "er", "ir", and "ur".  Please do lots of reviewing and practicing these new sounds, as "Bossy R" is changing the way we say these vowels!

Monday:

Worktext:  Pages 237-240, Have your child draw a picture of a garden, with the crops they would like to plant.

Phonics:  Pages 283-286, read the poem on 286 with your child, and talk about it. Practice the new word families from the pages today.

Write Now:  Pages 153-154

Reading:  Read your current book, and the last 5 Phonic Stories.  Review all of our service words.

Number skills:  Review 15 simple addition facts from the 3's and 4's. i.e., 3+4, 2+3, 4+5, 3+6. etc.

Handwriting:  (Skip page 85) Pages 86-88, Circle only the facts about birds, then put a star beside the facts you did not know. Talk about the difference between a fact and an opinion.  An opinion is what YOU think about something, not what everyone else thinks about the same thing.  For example:  Anna likes the color blue, but Elisha likes the color red.  The fact would be, both blue and red are colors, however,, everyone can have their own opinion about the best one!

For worksheets please review and practice the new word families that are learned this week.

WEDNESDAY:

Worktext:  Pages 241-244, review when to use the question mark.  Give your child 4 sentences verbally, and ask them if it is a statement or a question.

Phonics:  Pages 287-292 Both new and review of "Bossy R" sounds

Write Now:  Pages 155-158

Reading:  Practice your current book, and the last 5 of the current Phonic Stories.  Please review all new word families that appear in the phonic stories as well.

Number Skills:  Pages 149-150

Handwriting:  Pages 89-90, Remember that your child should write using the correct spacing, capitalization, and correct letter form.

Practice the new word families as needed, such as the words: fern, burn and dirt all have the same sound, but different vowels.  Sneaky "Bossy R"!

I will be listening to each of your child's reading this week.  Have a blessed week, and a very blessed Easter!  If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call me!

May God's Peace be yours,

Mrs. States
