Dodgeball Tournament- Tournament has been canceled due to lack of interest. 3rd quarter ends today Plan Night - changed from March 24 to April 14th at 6:30 in the ROC - This is a mandatory event for all 8-11 grade students - we will be planning schedules for the next year Cognitive Testing - Grades 3, 7, 9 on March 26th from 8:30 - 11:30 in the ROC Basketball Families - There are still slide show CD's available for purchase for $10 each - If you are interested, please inquire in the office Play Details - Thank you all students that auditioned - This year's play is a murder mystery dinner theater where the 'murdered victims' come out and talk to the audience to help the wannabe detective find the murderer. This is a theatrical device similar to Charles Dickens' classic novel A Christmas Carol with the ghosts of Christmas past, future, and a present. Mrs. Leon wants to assure parents and students that any questionable material is being cut, changed, or tweaked, as is done with every play performed at ACS. We do not believe that ghosts exist, nor that we can communicate with the dead, as it says in the book of Hebrews 9:27. Please plan to attend one of the following performances: April 24th at 7:00 pm with dinner -- April 25th at 1:00 (dessert only) -- April 25th at 7:00 with dinner Senior Trip Chaperones Needed - The senior class is looking for chaperones for senior trip. This trip is scheduled for May 18th through May 24th. All expenses will be paid for by the senior class. Elementary Parents- It has been brought to my attention that the sidewalks are not being cleared of snow on the elementary side. We have spoken to the deacons about that being remedied. However, if you pull into the parking lot and notice the sidewalks are not clear, please us the parking lot between the buildings to drop off.

Girls Soccer Meeting - Mr. Gabbert has agreed to coach our girls soccer team this spring, provided there is enough interest. There is an informational meeting in the ROC on Monday, Feb. 9th at 4:00. If you cannot attend but are interested, please let him know. Basketball tournaments - please pray for safe travel as our boys and girls basketball teams travel to a tournament in St. Louis on the 13th and 14th. ACT Test Date - Feb. 7th Valentine's Day Cards - We will have Valentine's boxes and bags set up in the AWANA room on Friday, Feb. 13th after Bible class. Please remember to bring your cards and/or candy for your friends that day. Each student will have time in their day to place their cards in the bags. Bags and boxes may be picked up at the end of the day. Boston Fundraisers - Remember, Valentine's Day 'candy grams' can be purchased until the morning of Feb. 9th. Forms can be found in the office if you have misplaced yours. They cost $1.00 each. The Boston group will deliver them on Friday, Feb. 13th. There will also be a dodge ball tournament hosted by the 8th grade Boston group on Saturday, March 7th. Cost will be $100 per team. There will be a max of 10 teams with 6 - 10 players per team. Scheduled Down Day - There will be no school on Monday, February 16th - teachers may choose to give homework for that Tuesday, so check with your child to see what is assigned. Thank You- Because of you, we were able to gift the Price family with $1,100.00. Thank you for giving so generously to such a deserving family. We still have Sonic discount cards available in the office for $5.00 each. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Price family. Also, continue to be in prayer for Tammy as she is only beginning her cancer treatments. Student Council Carnival - Saturday, January 31st from 5-8 pm in the ROC - There will be lots of fun games, face painting, the cake walk, and, of course, the pie in the face competition. Come dressed as your favorite Disney character and get free tickets!! Concessions will be provided by the senior class. STUCO families - All 9-12th grade students need to be at the school Saturday at 2:00 to set up for the carnival. All STUCO families are asked to bring a dessert for the cake walk. Midterm Cutoff - Wednesday, February 4th Boston Fundraiser - The Boston group will once again be offering a goody bundle that can be purchased for Valentine's Day. Sign-up sheets went home with your child last week. The deadline to sign up is no later than the morning of February 9th. Honor Roll / Perfect Attendance - This week we recognized our honor roll students as well as those earning perfect attendance for second quarter. I am encouraged and excited to see so many of our students excelling academically! Thank you parents for doing your part on Tuesday and Thursday. Pep Rally - We will be having a pep rally on Monday at 11:30 in the ROC. Everyone is welcome to attend. Courtwarming - Help us honor our seniors at courtwarming on Monday (Jan. 26th). Girls play at 6:00 with the boys scheduled to begin at 7:15. We will be taking donations that evening in lieu of a gate fee. Donations will be given to Tammy Price to help offset medical expenses related to her recent diagnosis of uterine cancer (peach ribbon). Please invite everyone you know and help us encourage our basketball athletes while donating to a good cause. Spirit Day - Monday is Black / Red Day!! Wear your ACS apparel!! Sonic Peach Tea - Yearbook staff will be selling Sonic peach tea on Monday (26th) to promote the game that evening. Proceeds will benefit Mrs. Price and Applewood Yearbook. The tea will be sold during lunch for $1.00. Thank you for your patience! I left early last Friday for a funeral and the bulletin was the last thing on my mind. :) The school board has accepted Mrs. Hiller's resignation for Vice Principal effective June 1, as well as her teaching position for next year. Applications for Vice Principal can be requested in the office and will be accepted until March 1, 2015. A very special thank you to Mrs. Hiller for your years of selfless service to our families at Applewood Christian School. STUCO Carnival - Saturday, January 31, from 5 - 8 pm in the ROC!! Games will shut down at 7:00 so we can begin the 'pie in the face' game. This year's theme is 'Disney' so anyone that comes dressed up as a Disney character will be given free tickets. Concessions will be available. Please help us spread the word and invite all your friends!! Box Tops - Thank you families for participating in Box Tops for Education. Our school recently received a check for $357.40 because of your hard work. Thank you again Mrs. Bessert for coordinating this fundraiser and always having fun prizes. Add / Drop Deadline - If you are planning to add or drop a class, the deadline is Wednesday, Jan 21st. Grade Cards - Please remember to return your signed grade cards to the office as soon as possible. Family Club update - Thank you to all of the ACS families participating in the Scrip fundraiser. Collectively, we have earned $3,100 towards our goal of $5,000 this school year! Also, in May of this year, we will be nominating and voting on the Secretary and President positions for the Family Club. If you are interested in serving in either of these areas, please let the office know. Now would be a great time to begin learning how to fill these duties. Courtwarming - We will be recognizing our seniors on January 26th. The girls game starts at 6:00 with the boys scheduled to begin at 7:15. In lieu of charging a gate fee that evening, we will be accepting donations to be given to Tammy Price to help with medical expenses. Tammy is currently being treated for uterine cancer (peach ribbon). Plan to come out and enjoy a fun evening of fellowship and competition. Friday (Jan. 23) - Hillbilly Day Monday (Jan. 26) - Black / Red Day Prizes will be awarded each day for the best dressed. Spirit days can also be found on the school calendar. Fundraising Dinner - We have been blessed to receive a few more donations for our fundraising dinner. As of today, we have received $9370 before expenses are deducted. ACT Deadlines - If you are interested in your child taking the ACT test offered in April, the deadline to sign up is March 13.

Welcome - At the beginning of the semester, we will welcome 2 new teachers to our staff. Thank you Ms. McKinney for your service at Applewood. May you find great success and fulfillment in your new position. Also, a special 'thank you' to Mr. Bussey for challenging our PE classes these past few weeks. You will both be missed. Mrs. Bobbi Dittmer has accepted a position at ACS and will be teaching several of Ms. McKinney's classes, so please be sure to make her feel welcome. We will also be welcoming Mrs. Brenda Nevels as our new PE teacher. Missing Dish - Dharma is missing a small red dish that she brought with dip in it to our party day. Script Cards - Mrs. Rehmer has stocked her binder and is ready to meet all your script card needs! Remember, you may be able to use script cards to purchase many of your Christmas gifts, and they also make great stocking stuffers. If you need a script card that Mrs. Rehmer does not have on hand, she can order them for you. You must have your order submitted by Monday if you need them by Christmas. Christmas Program - Please refer to the school calendar for dress rehearsal dates and times. Our program is scheduled for December 18th at 6:30 in the ROC. Please come and help us celebrate the birth of our Lord. December 19th / 1/2 Day - This will once again be a party day for all of our students. This year grades K-8th have the opportunity to go Christmas caroling and hand out cards at Four Seasons Nursing Home. A permission slip with additional information is going home with your child today. Parents are welcome to attend!! Christmas Cards for Mrs. Patton - If you would like to send Mrs. Patton a Christmas card, please turn them in to the office in an unsealed envelope by Friday morning. I will give them to Mr. Patton and he will ensure they get to Jamie. Box Tops - Box Tops are due December 19th. Each month our highest earner is recognized. Congratulations Gareth Herrington for being our highest earner for the month of November and winning a $10 script card. Thank you Mrs. Bessert for coordinating this fundraiser for our school, and thank you to all of our families for participating!! School / Class Tardiness - We have had a drastic increase in tardies over the past few weeks. I know it is a busy time of the year, but it is important that you arrive to school on time. The school does have a policy pertaining to attendance which does include being tardy. Policy #5205 states that 'being tardy for school or class three times per semester can result in detention or other suitable discipline'. To read this policy or any other policy in full, please visit our website. Parent Jobs - We still have a few families that have not selected a parent job. It is mandatory that each family fulfill 3 parent job points each school year. If you have not chosen yours, please contact the office and visit with Mrs. Otten. She can assist you in finding a job. Yearbook Ads - Friday, December 12th, will be the last day to purchase an ad for the yearbook. If you need another form, please notify the office. Please have your money and photo/business card attached to the ad form and return to the office. Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition - Many of our students have requested an ugly/gaudy holiday sweater competition. We encourage all students and teachers to wear their ugliest / gaudiest holiday sweater on December 10th. Clothes Needed - Stephanie Bahner, local DARE officer, has contacted me with a request for clothes and household items. One of her DARE students and their family has lost everything this week to a house fire. If you have any girl clothes, junior sizes 0-2 or XS; boy clothes, sizes 10-14; adult men, size 32X34 jeans and shirts size 3XL; or any household items, please bring them to the office and we will make sure they get to them. Again, this was a total loss so they are needing coats, clothes, shoes, household items, etc... Lost and Found - We will continue to display our lost and found items until the end of school on December 19th, at which point we are planning to take all items to The Warm House in Warsaw. Among the many clothing items, we also have several dishes that have been left behind from various events. Please be sure to stop by and see if anything belongs to your family. Spanish Caroling - Mrs. León's Spanish classes are going caroling tonight. They plan to leave the ROC at 8:00 pm and hope to finish up around 12:45 am. Contact Dharma León with any questions. Dress rehearsals will be December 15th from 3:30-5:30 and again on December 17th from 3:30 - 5:00. Lost and Found - We did have a few items claimed Wednesday from our lost and found, however we still have quite a bit left. We will take whatever items are left unclaimed by December 19th to The Warm House in Warsaw. Please be sure to stop in and see if any of our 'goodies' belong to you. Christmas Tree Needed - We are looking for a large Christmas tree to decorate the foyer. If you have one you would like to donate for the season, please let the office know. Spanish Caroling - Mrs. Leon's Spanish classes will be going caroling this Friday, December 5th. They plan to leave the ROC at 8:00 pm and hope to be done around 1:00 am. Mrs. Leon would like all current Spanish I and II students to attend, but she has also invited her former Spanish students to participate if they would like. All permission slips must be turned in before they can go Friday night. If you would like them to visit your house that evening, please let Mrs. Leon know. It is traditional for the host / hostess to invite the the carolers inside and offer them some treats and warm drink for around 25 persons. Christmas Program - Applewood's traditional Christmas program is fast approaching, and all junior high and elementary students have been working on memorizing their songs and lines for the performance on Thursday, December 18th. Please, remind your child to take time to memorize their lines at least 20 min. every homework day. They have also received a cd with the songs they are learning. Please play the cd as much as possible. Junior High costumes for this performance are a basic cowboy or cowgirl look. Mrs. Leon already has costumes for our elementary students. The dress rehearsal is scheduled after school on Monday, December 15, from 3:30 to 5:30 at the ROC. Thanksgiving Feast - 1/2 day for students - Program to begin at 11:30 - Dinner will be served at 12:00 Lost and Found - We will have a table set up at the Thanksgiving feast showcasing our lost and found. Please be sure to check it before you leave that day. Boston Fundraiser - Boston group will have a table set up at the Thanksgiving feast with the following items to sell - 5 Mustang sports bags ($12 each) and 27 ACS travel mugs ($10 each). Be sure to stop by and do some Christmas shopping!! Family Club Script Cards - Family Club will have a table set up at the Thanksgiving feast for you to purchase script cards. Please stop by and get yours before you do 'Black Friday' shopping. Use them to purchase your Christmas gifts while earning credit towards your family's $100 goal. STUCO - Bell Ringing - Our high school students will once again have the opportunity to ring the bell for the Salvation Army red kettle. If your child (grades 9-12) wishes to participate, please see Caroline Kelly. They will be ringing on December 6th at the east entrance of Wal-Mart from 9-11 and 11-1. Christmas Caroling With a Twist - All our Spanish I and II students are already practicing to go caroling on Friday, December 5th, from 8:00 pm - 12:45 am. We invite all our previous students of Spanish I, II, and Experiential to come and join us that evening (all students will need a signed permission form). If you would like us to go caroling at your house, please let us know by Monday, December 1st, and include your name, telephone number, and address. As we come to sing, the hosts invite us inside their home and offer us some treats and warm drinks, then join us for the next home. If you would like to feed us some treats and warm drink (around 25 persons), let Mrs. Leon know by calling her at 473-2503 or emailing her at dharma.leon@yahoo.com. Gift Exchange - Each year our students draw names before they leave for Thanksgiving break for our Christmas gift exchange.
