Unclaimed Dishes - There is a square Pyrex baking dish with a red lid in the office that was left after the sports award banquet. We also have a large spoon with an acrylic handle with gold flecks in it. If these belong to you, please pick them up as soon as possible. Thanksgiving Feast - Forms due today - this will be a 1/2 day with the program to begin at 11:30 and lunch served at 12:00 Boston Fundraisers - Boston group will have a table set up at the Thanksgiving feast with the following items to sell - 5 Mustang sports bags ($12/each) and 27 ACS travel mugs ($10/each). Be sure to stop by and do some Christmas shopping!! Also, there will be a soup and chili lunch immediately following church services at Maplewood Church on Sunday, November 16th. They will begin serving around 12:00. 'Tis the Season - In case of inclement weather, please be sure to check the website for school closings. The cancellation will be scrolling across the top of the page. You will also receive a one call with the notification of cancellation. If you have not been receiving any one calls, please let the office know so we can be sure to get you set up to receive them. Teachers should have all homework posted on the blog by 10:00 a.m., and all homework will be due when the students return. STUCO - Bell Ringing - Our high school students will once again have the opportunity to ring the bell for the Salvation Army red kettle. If your child (grades 9-12) wishes to participate, please see Caroline Kelly. They will be ringing on December 6th at the east entrance of Wal-Mart from 9-11 and 11-1. Thanksgiving Baskets - STUCO students will once again be putting together Thanksgiving baskets to be given to deserving families. Be watching for a flyer to come home next week with information about how you can help. Fundraising Dinner - Thank you, thank you, thank you for another great evening of food and fellowship. I'm humbled to see our families and students serving in a variety of ways to make this event such a success. Grade Cards - Grade cards went home on Monday. Please, if you haven't do so already, return them signed by Monday, November 10th. Boston Fundraiser - Boston will be hosting lunch at Maplewood Church immediately following service on November 16th at 12:00. Feel free to come and eat even if you don't attend church services there. If you'd like to attend services at Maplewood that day, church begins at 10:30. Perkins Pies are being offered for advance sale to benefit the Boston group. Pick up dates are November 25, 26, or 27. There is a sign up sheet on the office door, or you may order yours by contacting an 8th grade family. Thanksgiving Feast - Paperwork has gone home with your child letting you know ways that you may be able to help with this beloved event. Please return those to the office as soon as possible. Honor Roll - We recognized all of our honor roll recipients this morning during opening. If your child (grades 3-12) made the honor roll, they received a certificate commemorating their success. 'Honor Roll' indicates your child had a GPA (not cumulative) of a 3.0 or higher. 'Principal's Honor Roll' indicates your child has a GPA of 4.0 for this quarter. Fundraising Dinner - Finally! After much preparation, our fundraising dinner is tomorrow evening at 6:30. 5th - 8th grade performers need to be here by 4:00, servers by 5:00, and families should plan to be here at 5:00 (no later than 5:15) to set up their table. Please be sure to park in the parking lot to the south of the church to ensure plenty of parking for our guests. Thank you so much for your commitment to this event and ultimately to the success of our school. Grade Cards - In the craziness of the preparation for our event tomorrow evening, grade cards were not able to go home today. They will go home on Monday. Volleyball Uniform Turn-In - All volleyball players need to return their uniforms immediately following school on Monday. Coach Mabry, Coach Furrey, and I will be available to check those in. Do not leave them in the office to be checked in. Boston Fundraiser - The Boston group will be serving at El-Tapatio on November 6th. They also plan to host a lunch at Maplewood Church immediately following service on November 16th at 12:00. Feel free to come and eat even if you don't attend church services there. If you'd like to attend services at Maplewood that day, church begins at 10:30. Fall Sports Award - We will be honoring our volleyball and soccer athletes on November 3rd at 6:30. All Fundraising Dinner Servers - Each server is required to wear black pants and a white shirt while serving at the dinner. Also, Table of 5 will be meeting with all servers on Wednesday, October 29th, immediately following school until 3:30. Guest List - Please let the office know if you have any changes to your guest list. We have tried to combine tables that were not filled, so if you add to your list we need to know to ensure there is enough room at your table. Drama Rehearsal - 5th - 8th grade will be performing at this year's fundraising dinner. There is a required rehearsal for all performers on October 30th. Fundraising Dinner Childcare - We have limited space for childcare and are asking that families use our childcare services only as a last resort. If you know that your guests will be needing childcare that evening and cannot find their own provider, please let the office know as soon as possible. Red Folders - Please check your child's red folder. Paperwork has gone home today concerning the fundraising dinner. 1st Quarter Ends Today - Today is the last day of 1st quarter. Grade cards should be ready to go home by the end of next week. Please be sure you have returned your parent/student surveys as grade cards will be held until they are returned. Soccer Senior Recognition - Senior recognition has been cancelled for tonight and the soccer team will be travelling to KC East instead of playing at home. The field conditions were not favorable for a game with all the recent rain we have gotten, but the fields were playable in Kansas City. Please be watching the calendar for the rescheduled recognition of our senior soccer athletes. Pink Out Game - A big 'THANK YOU' to everyone that was able to come celebrate our volleyball senior recognition as well as show our support for the Boatright family. Upcoming Spirit Days - In honor of Homecoming (Senior Recognition), we are having a few spirit days. We will give away a prize to the best dressed elementary, junior high, and high school student on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monday is pj day. Wednesday is 'twin' day so pick a fellow student and plan to dress alike. Friday will be Fandom Friday so dress like your favorite super hero, sports hero, or tv/movie. Homecoming - We will be recognizing our senior volleyball athletes on Tuesday, September 30th at 4:30. Please come out and watch a great game between ACS and Midland Advent. When the game is over, we will be hosting a 'boys vs girls' fun game of volleyball. It's sure to be a great night!! Pep Rally - We will host our first ever pep rally on Monday, Sept. 29th during the lunch hour. I am excited to see how this may promote school spirit. We will announce our volleyball and soccer teams, as well as recognize our senior athletes. Pictures/Eye Exams - Pictures and eye exams will be done on Friday, September 19. We will begin taking pictures with Kindergarten at 9:00. If you have a younger sibling that you want photographed that day, please pick up an order form in the office and plan to have their picture taken at 8:30. Order forms have gone home with all students today. Please send in one completed order form per child, along with payment, in the envelope provided. Each family only needs to send in one check. Please do not seal the envelope as this will be the envelope used to deliver your pictures. Chapel - Monday, September 15, at 8:15 is our first chapel. As always, all parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. What an honor and a blessing to publicly worship our Lord. We should never take that for granted and exercise that privilege often. ACT test date - Saturday, September 13 - if you are not signed up to take the ACT this Saturday, and you are in high school, consider becoming registered to take one this school year. If interested, future test dates are listed in the office. Lost and Found - Label, Label, Label!!! Please be sure to label your child's things as our lost and found is already filling up. Add / Drop Deadline - The deadline is fast approaching (Sept. 17). If your child is considering adding or dropping a class, he/she must submit the form to the office no later that Wed. Any requests after this deadline will not be considered. Fundraising Dinner - Information regarding the dinner has gone home with your child today. Praise God we have had a smooth start to the school year!!! Students and staff seem to be adjusting well to the new schedules, and we haven't had any major problems. I, for one, am glad to be back at school and see all the happy faces. Walking between buildings - Please remind your student(s) that they are not to be walking between buildings without an adult. In the morning, they are to stay in the building they are dropped off at, and an adult will walk them over as a group to the CEL for opening. Lost and Found - We are already accumulating items in our lost and found. Please be sure everything is labeled with your child's name. Stop in to the ROC and see if anything may belong to you. Kick-off forms - Please turn in all forms by Monday Summer Reading Program - If your child participated in the summer reading program, be sure to have them turn in their reading logs to the office by Monday morning. They will not be accepted any later than noon on Monday. Red folders - Please check the red folders regularly as the office will use these folders to send home important papers. I hope all our families are enjoying a restful Labor Day holiday!! The start of school is fast approaching, and I'm sure all our students are getting excited to begin a new school year!! :) Please continue to be in prayer for the first day back as it can be a day filled with craziness as we all adjust to new schedules and classes. First day of school - September 3 - arrive to school by 8:00 - opening begins at 8:10 School Supplies - Many of you took advantage of bringing in your school supplies at kick-off, however, if you have not already had your supplies checked in, please bring them on the first day of school. Be sure to label them with your last name and year so we can be certain to get them checked in. Bulletin - I will be posting a new bulletin each Friday. Please be sure to check the website each week so you will always be up to date on all our breaking news! Kick - off forms - Thank you to all families that were able to make our kick-off evening! If you were unable to make it that night, please be sure to pick up your folder in the office. It is full of necessary forms that must be filled out and returned right away. Whew!!! There is so much activity in preparation for the rapidly approaching start of school. Fun was had by all who attended the skate party (thank you family club). Tuition: If you have not already paid your Sept. tuition, please contact the office to make arrangements to do that as soon as possible. Parent Volunteer Jobs: Check the website to see what is still available to you. School Supplies: A school supply list went out to all families via email last week. We are trying to cut back on the amount of paper we use, so please be sure to print those out before you head out to buy supplies. If you do not have email, or you did not receive yours, please let us know in the office and we will be sure to mail you a copy. You may bring all copy paper, dry erase markers and erasers, paper towels, and cleaning supplies to kick-off (August 28th at 6:30). We will have a table downstairs afterwards to check them in. If you cannot bring them at kick-off, please be sure to check them in with your teacher the first day of school. Sports Physicals: August 21 at 6:00 in the ROC - please remember to bring a copy of your insurance card and all fall sports fees. Physical forms can be downloaded from the Applewood website. This is made available to all ACS athletes free of charge, so please remember to thank our doctors and volunteers. Teachers Needed: Advanced Math I & II , 7th - 11th grade History , Government / Economics , HS Boys Bible , Chapel coordinator Athletic Physicals: Dr. Allcorn and Dr. Drennon will once again be doing our sports physicals for all athletes free of charge. This evening is for athletes participating on any ACS sports team for the 2014/2015 school year. We will host physicals on the night of August 21st beginning at 6:00. Please bring your filled out physical form (can be downloaded from ACS website), a copy of your insurance card, and any fall sports fees. We are in need of a minimum of 6 volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Gaye Hiller at 660-619-7581. Please remember to thank both Dr. Allcorn and Dr. Drennon!!! Sept. tuition due in June: Sept. tuition is due in the month of June. Please make arrangements in the office if yours is not yet paid. Remember, this secures your child's spot for the upcoming school year. Summer Reading Program (optional): Please be encouraging your child to read...read...read! We will once again be having a drawing at the beginning of the school year for some great prizes!!
