School Supply Lists - Most of you have brought in all of your school supplies, but we are still missing supplies from a few families.

Kick-Off Forms - If you have not turned in all of your Kick-Off forms, please do so immediately.

Thanksgiving Feast Coordinator - Thank you, Matt and Breanna Wells, for committing to serve as our Thanksgiving feast coordinators this year. Your service is greatly appreciated!

Chapel - Our first chapel is Monday, September 18th @ 8:15 am - all families are invited and welcome to attend

Add/Drop Deadline - September 20th is the deadline for high school students to add or drop a class.

See You at the Pole - September 27th @ 8:10 am - families are welcome to join us as we pray over our families, school, military, and nation.

CFS Tournament - All students leaving school early on Sept. 29th for the CFS tournament are expected to get their homework ahead of time from their teachers; all work is due the day they return.

Pep-Rally - Friday, October 6th @ 11:30 in the ROC - we will be recognizing our fall sports athletes.

Senior Recognition - Friday, October 6th - We will honor our volleyball seniors following the game.

Parent/Teacher Conference - Monday, October 9th @ 6:00 in the ROC - Please add this date to your family calendars; we need all families to be in attendance. This is a great evening designed to open dialog between parents and teachers, but feel free to contact a teacher at any time if you have questions or concerns.

Picture Day - Wednesday, October 18th - Mrs. Brenda Nevels will send home an order form the week before pictures.

1st Quarter Ends - Wednesday, October 25th - grade cards will go home the following week

Fall Soccer & Volleyball - Our fall sports programs are in full swing, and teams have begun playing games. It really helps promote school spirit and encourages the athletes to see and hear fans in the stands. Please check the event calendar to see when you could come and cheer on your ACS Mustangs!

School Supply Lists - Most of you have brought in all of your school supplies, but we are still missing supplies from a few families. Please have all supplies checked in with the office no later than next Friday.

Kick-Off Forms - If you have not turned in all of your Kick-Off forms, please do so by the end of next week. Please see Mrs. Otten if you are unsure where your family stands concerning these forms.

Subs Needed - We are still hoping to expand our current sub list. Please contact the school office if you are interested in substitute teaching this year.

School Directory - Mrs. Otten is finishing directories up today. They will go home with your child either today or early next week. Any communication from the office will go home with your child in the red communication folder.

Thanksgiving Feast Coordinator - As of today, no one has stepped up to coordinate our Thanksgiving feast this year. I currently have 5 parents signed up and willing to help in any way they can, I just need a leader. We have a binder in the office with lots of information for meal planning and recipes. Please see someone in the office if you'd be willing to serve in this way.

School Supply Lists - Mrs. Otten has emailed supply lists out; please contact the school if you did not receive the email. The Missouri tax free holiday is this upcoming weekend. Happy shopping!! Any supplies to be used by the school such as copy paper, kleenex, paper towels, etc....should be marked with the family's last name and 2017. Please plan to bring these supplies to the back to school party on August 24th so we can begin checking them into our inventory. If you are unable to be at the back to school party, please bring them to Kick-Off. This allows us to check them in and get them put away before the first day of school. It will also give us an opportunity to let you know if you are missing anything on the list.

One Call List - I have added new families to our One Call list and updated other families contact information. I sent out a One Call yesterday to ALL families. Please let me know if you did not receive the call or you would like to add a number to our list. If you are not signed up and would like to receive text messages through One Call, please test the word 'Alert' to 22300.

Yearbooks - The 2016/2017 yearbooks are in and look great - thank you yearbook class and Mrs. Blake! We will pass them out at the back to school party scheduled for August 24th beginning at 6:30 pm at the school. Please make arrangements with the office to pay if you have not paid for yours yet.

Teacher Needs for 2017/2018: We are looking for an elementary/junior high PE teacher for next school year. Please let me know if you are interested.

Remember, jobs are given on a first come first serve basis, so it will be important to sign up as soon as they are available. Please only sign up for the required 3 points until each family has had an opportunity to get signed up. When all families have signed up, we will open it up to anyone that is willing to sign up for more than 3 points. We invite you to begin praying now about how God would use you to serve Him at ACS. A special 'thank you' to each family for your sacrificial service. You are appreciated!!

Teacher Needs for 2017/2018: We are looking for an art teacher as well as a PE teacher for next school year. Please let me know if you are interested.

Fall Sports - All fall athletes need to have their sports physicals turned in to their coach by the first practice. All sports fees need to be paid to the coach before the first game. Sports fees are as follows: ACS athletes - $70 Homeschool athletes - $80 *please note: soccer athletes have an additional fee of $12 for socks

School Supply List - The school supply list has been updated. As soon as Mrs. Otten finalizes the form we will send it out to you. In the meantime, if you are out shopping and find a great deal on something, please feel free to contact us and we will let you know if it's on the list.

Book Fees and Sept. Tuition - If you have not paid either of these, you must contact the office as soon as possible. It is necessary that September tuition is paid in June to secure your child's spot in the class for next year.

Sports Physicals - Thursday, June 29th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in the ROC - This is open to any athlete that plans to play any ACS sport next school year. There is NO CHARGE for these physicals thanks to our very generous physicians that donate their time to ensure ALL of our athletes are healthy and cleared to safely compete. All athletes in attendance need to bring the following: completed physical forms and a photo copy of your insurance card. If your child plans to play volleyball or soccer they may pay their athletic fees that evening as well. Athletic fees should be given directly to the coach and are as follows: ACS athletes: $70 Home school athletes: $80

I hope everyone is having a restful and enjoyable summer! Summertime is a busy season for your ACS office staff, and this summer is no exception. We are busy, busy, busy in the office creating schedules (both teacher and student), reviewing and revising handbooks, and preparing for our big Kick-Off event (Aug. 31 @ 6:30) among other things. Volleyball and soccer schedulers are busy creating our fall sports schedules, and they will be added to the school calendar as soon as they are made available to us. The first day of school (Sept. 6 @ 8:00 am) will be here before we know it. Many of you are utilizing our scheduled office hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 - 3:00), and for that we are incredibly thankful. Please continue to check the website on a regular basis for all the latest news. I still plan to publish a bulletin monthly, and I update the school calendar as soon as I get notified of an addition or change to the schedule. We would covet your prayers as we secure teachers and students for next year. We pray and trust that the Lord will supply All our needs and bring along just the right people to serve and be served at Applewood Christian School. I am so thankful for each and every one of you and feel blessed to be a part of the ACS family.

Policy Updates - The school board has made updates to policies #4520, #4210, #4240 - All policies may be accessed on the school website for families to view at any time

Drama Production - Fiddler on the Roof - Tonight at 7:00 pm & Tomorrow at 2:00 and 7:00 pm - tickets are available for purchase in the office or may be purchased at the door ($5 for adults & $3 for kindergarten - 12th grade) - The production looks like it will be yet another amazing show, and the kids have worked so hard on their parts. Plan to come out on this rainy weekend and be entertained!!!

Museum Bible Truck Exhibit on Wheels - This is a traveling walk through exhibit that shows the history of the Bible. The truck will be parked at First Baptist Church (200 E. 6th Street) from May 3rd - May 7th. Admission is free. If you would like more information, please visit www.bibletrucksedalia.org or call (660) 951-7771. They are asking that you pre-register if you are interested in viewing the exhibits.

Limited ROC Usage - The gym will be a busy place next week and will likely not be available in its entirety for regular student use. The students are encouraged to bring games (Catch Phrase, a deck of cards, UNO, Monopoly, etc...) to school all week so they will be sure to have something fun to do together.

Yearbook - Final Notice.....If you would like to sponsor a page in the yearbook the cost is $15 per page- Mrs. Otten sent out an email on March 17th with a chart of available pages - Deadline to sponsor a page and/or submit pictures is May 1st. Teacher Appreciation Week - May 1 - 5 - Please be thinking and praying about how you can make your teachers feel especially loved and appreciated during this week. They work so hard and give so much to our students. Join me in making them feel extra special during this time.

Verse of the day: The same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him. Romans 10:12

Iowa Basic Test - Academic Committee decided a few months back to use an updated version of the Iowa Basic standardized tests this year. ACS had been using the Iowa Basic testing (form A), and this year it was decided to use the Iowa Basic testing (updated form E). If you are a family that compares your child's results from year to year, please note that it is not recommended that this year's test be compared to last year's test as they are quite different. The updated version (form E) uses current terminology that our students are more familiar with (ex: form A still talked about a card cataglog which our students are not familiar with). The updated version (form E) also tested our students more on their cognitive abilities than the previous form did. We, as a committee, felt like this was a good move for our school, and I hope our families will agree. Mrs. Bergman, our testing coordinator, is planning to send home an informative letter outlining all of the differences and benefits of using the updated form. In the meantime, please contact her if you have any questions or concerns.

Academic Committee Update - Academic Committee works hard to ensure that the needs of our students are met through our curriculum and offer support to our teaching staff. I am honored to serve as committee member alongside some amazing women that sacrifice time each month to meet and discuss the needs of our school. We have three members that have served on committee for many many years, but have recently decided through much prayer to pursue other interests. The committee members that have resigned are as follows: Debra Church (committee chair), Pam Young, and Malinda Nevils (secretary). If you see them, be sure to thank them for their years of service. I would also like to welcome and say a special thank you to Mrs. Kelley Bergman for accepting the committee chairperson position. Thank you, ladies, for your willingness to serve.

Drama Production - Fiddler on the Roof - April 28th at 7:00 pm and 29th at 2:00 and 7:00 pm - tickets are available for purchase ($5 for adults & $3 for kindergarten - 12th grade) in the office or from any of our cast members - Cast members should make it a priority to be at ALL practices between now and the production.
