Mission Trip - Amy and I are both travelling to Haiti on a mission trip from March 4^th – 11^th.  Should any issues arise while we are gone that need immediate attention, please contact the following:  Kelley Bergman (all academic related issues) - Kim Mabry (all non-academic related issues).  We will be happy to address all non-emergent issues/concerns when we return.  We covet your prayers for safe travels and good health while we are there.  Also be in prayer that the hearts and minds of those we are ministering to would be open to hearing the word of God.    

Home Basketball Games - Home game opportunities for the next week are as follows:  Tonight: varsity girls and varsity boys beginning at 6:00 pm - Tuesday (January 23rd): junior high boys, varsity girls, and varsity boys beginning at 6:00 pm - Each family is invited and encouraged to come cheer on your Mustang basketball teams to a victory!    

Hot Lunch Coordinator - Dino Ward will be stepping down as our hot lunch coordinator at the end of the school year.  We have decided to go ahead and advertise the opening and see if anyone is interested in filling this position next school year.  Dino will be happy to mentor and train the next person, and he could potentially begin training before this school year is finished.  Please let the office know if you are interested or want more information.  Thanks! 

Yearbook Pictures - Yearbook needs any basketball pictures and pictures of the Christmas program.  Please send to applewoodyearbook@yahoo.com 

Science Projects - 3rd quarter is set aside for science projects.  This means that it is acceptable for science teachers to assign regularly scheduled science homework in addition to the science project work.  Check with your child as teachers will be sending home their expectations, deadlines, and important information for this year's projects.    

Spirit Day - Friday, January 26th - Hawaiian day - Let's get excited about the Hawaiian theme for our school carnival.   

ACS School Carnival - Saturday, January 27th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the ROC gym - Join us for and evening full of family friendly fun with a bounce house, cake walk, pie-in-the face contest, and much more at our annual school carnival.  Dress up in your favorite Hawaiian accessories for a warming experience in the middle of winter!

3rd Quarter Mid-term Cutoff - January 31st 

Girls Basketball Tournament - February 9th & 10th in St. Louis - Each student that will be going to this tournament is responsible for getting all of their homework before they leave.  Homework is due when they return to school.   

School Board Meeting - February 12th @ 6:30 pm 

No School - Monday, February 19th -  No homework will be given for the 19th, but homework will be given for the 20th.

Winter Sports Award Banquet - Monday, February 26th @ 6:00 pm in the ROC - Each family in attendance is asked to bring a dessert to share - Plan to come and help us celebrate the accomplishments of our athletes.   

Father/Daughter Dance - Mark your calendars now for the student council father/daughter dance on Saturday, March 17th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the ROC - I will post more information when tickets go on sale - Please see Julie Morrison, Bailey Mabry, or Kim Mabry with any questions.

Policy Updates - The school board has made a change to policies #5010 and #4310.  They have been uploaded to the website for your review.  Just a reminder that all policies are effective immediately upon approval of the school board, so please get rid of any hard copy you may have of these two policies and refer only to what is on the website.   

ACS Apparel - All ACS apparel has been ordered and should be done before Christmas - the goal is to get them done by our party day, but if that doesn't happen then Mrs. Mabry or Julie Morrison will be contacting you for delivery options if you plan to gift them for Christmas. 

Christmas Program Dress Rehearsal - Today and Monday, December 11th - 3:30 - 5:00 pm - please plan to send an extra snack for your student to enjoy between school and dress rehearsal (especially for our younger kiddos) because it will be a long day for them.  Elementary teachers will bring students to the ROC for administration to oversee at 3:00 so our kids can eat and play before rehearsals begin.  Parents should plan to pick students up at 5:00 in the sanctuary.   

Christmas Program - Tuesday, December 12th @ 6:30 pm in the sanctuary - Special 'thank you' to Family Club for providing cookies and punch in the Awana room immediately following the program and to Mr. and Mrs. Groshart for coordinating this year's program

Gift Exchange Gifts - All gifts being given for our gift exchange should be brought to the school by December 13th to ensure no one forgets theirs in the busyness of getting ready the morning of party day.  

2nd Quarter Ends - Friday, December 15th

Christmas Gift Exchange -  In an effort to ensure that these gifts are not a burden to families, we ask that each student adhere to the following spending caps:  Elementary (grades K - 5) $3.00 - $5.00  JH (grades 6 - 8) $5.00 - $7.00  HS (grades 9 - 12) $7.00 - $10.00 - It's always encouraging when we have the opportunity to witness our students being both gracious givers and receivers during our gift exchange.  Students will exchange gifts with one another on December 15th.

Donations Needed - New Hope Baptist Church is putting together a 'North Pole Express Christmas Store'  which is a community outreach event that makes giving presents to loved ones possible for children who could not otherwise afford such a gesture.  This store will allow kids to come and shop for gifts for their loved ones free of charge.  They are asking if each of our Applewood families would feel led to donate 2 - 3 unopened rolls of wrapping paper so the gifts can go home with children already wrapped and ready to be gifted.  If you would feel led to help in this way, please have your donations dropped off in the school office by Wednesday, November 29th.  'Thank You' to the families that have already donated!

2nd Quarter Mid-Term Cutoff - TODAY - mid-terms will go out next week

Thanksgiving Feast - Wednesday, November 22 - this is a 1/2 day for students - K - 5th grade will perform around 11:30, and we will plan to eat around noon - A very special 'thank you' to Matt and Breanna Wells for coordinating our Thanksgiving feast and Mrs. Jamie Groshart for coordinating our K - 5 performance.  These events are made possible because of you and others that actively serve.

Tardies - With colder days it often seems harder and harder to get around in the morning, but please be sure to make every effort to get your child to school on time - just a reminder that if a student is tardy 3 times in a semester they will need to serve a detention   

School Board Meeting - Scheduled for Monday, November 6th @ 6:30 pm  

Senior Class Fundraiser - There will be a fish fry hosted by our senior class on November 11th at the Smithton Diner from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.  Your meal will consist of catfish (5pc for adults & 3 pc for kids), baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, drink and dessert.  Tickets are $10.00 (Adults) and $6.00 (kids 10 and under).  All tickets must be purchased in advance by calling Turner Heating & Air @ (660) 826-6060 or purchasing in the school office.  

2nd Quarter Mid-Term Cutoff - Friday, November 17th

Thanksgiving Feast - Wednesday, November 22 - this is a 1/2 day for students - K - 5th grade will perform around 11:30, and we will plan to eat around noon - sign up sheets went home this past week and are due back Today -Students will be drawing names for the Christmas gift exchange before leaving school - We are now in need of 2 more adult Thanksgiving feast helpers.  Please contact the office if you would be willing to spend the morning with us helping out in the kitchen.

2nd Quarter Mid-Term Cutoff - Friday, November 17th

Thanksgiving and Christmas Programs - Traditionally Dharma Leon coordinates our Thanksgiving and Christmas programs.  As all of you know, Mrs. Leon is undergoing chemotherapy for *** cancer and will be unable to lead our students this year in these programs.  Mrs. Jamie Groshart has felt led to step up and coordinate these programs in Mrs. Leon's absence.  The Thanksgiving program will include our K - 5th grade, and the Christmas program will be performed by our K - 8th grade students.  Because Mrs. Groshart works and will be unable to be here 3 days a week, we will be restructuring K - 8 specials through the end of the semester.  Once I finalize the new schedule, I will send a copy home with students so parents will have the latest information.  Dates to Remember:  The Thanksgiving program will be performed right before lunch on November 22nd by our K - 5th grade students.  K-8th grade students will perform our Christmas program on December 12th @ 6:30 pm.  There are two Christmas dress rehearsals scheduled for December 8th and 11th.  Please don't hesitate to visit with Mrs. Groshart if you have any questions.

Presto Pay fees waived - If you use Presto Pay to order your Scrip cards, please note they are waiving the fee for any purchases made from Sept. 23 - Sept. 29.  

Absences - Parents, please be sure to contact the school by 9:00 am if your child will not be at school that day.  This includes any student athlete that will miss school due to a ball game/tournament.  I've been guilty myself of contacting the teacher to get any missed assignments and forgetting to contact the school office, so it's a good reminder for all of us.      

See You at the Pole - September 27th @ 8:10 am - families are welcome to join us as we pray over our families, school, military, and nation.  

CFS Tournament - All students leaving school early on Sept. 29th for the CFS tournament are expected to get their homework ahead of time from their teachers; all work is due the day they return.  

Pep-Rally - Friday, October 6th @ 11:30 in the ROC - we will be recognizing our fall sports athletes.
