Hello ACS,
School seems to be progressing quite well! As I have been
speaking with new students, families, and teachers, all are transitioning
smoothly into the ACS family! Thank you for everyone’s hard work to make this a
great school year.
Lost and Found: Even though school has just gotten under way, we have our lost and
found beginning to pile up. Students and parents, please take time to look at
the black shelf outside the office to see if there is something that belongs to
you! We may also have some items in the office if you are ever missing
something.
School Supplies: If you have not done so already, please bring in your supplies for the
office. We will be running short of supplies if we do not receive what was
asked for from each family.
Homework Surveys: One way we work
to keep school running effectively is by doing homework surveys. On Monday, we
will be sending home a homework survey for each student. We ask that you time
how long it takes to complete the homework assignment for each subject. Please
record this information for Tuesday and Thursday and have your child return the
surveys on Friday. We will then look at the information and see how classes and
students are faring. Thanks!!
Sports Senior
Recognition: Friday, Oct 4 - During the
varsity soccer and volleyball game, we will be recognizing our senior athletes.
Plan now to attend and support these great student athletes!
Parent/Teacher
Conferences:
Please mark your calendars – Monday,
October 7, 6 pm
We
are doing conferences earlier this year. Rather than wait for the quarter to be
finished, we decided to try conferences after mid-terms of first quarter. This
gives each student and teacher a chance to better understand assignments,
expectations, etc. before quarter grades are given. We look forward to seeing
each family!
Picture Day/ Eye
Exams: Friday, October
11 - Order
forms will be sent home soon. Josh Greer will be taking our school pictures
once again. The pictures and eye exams will begin right after opening. Dr. John
Drenon will be doing eye exams for all students who did not attend the sports
physicals. Please thank both of these families for volunteering their time and
talents to ACS!

Hello ACS,
Thank
you goes to Brian and Erica Daniel for coordinating our emergency service day!
It was a huge success! We had highway patrol, Pettis County fire trucks, an
ambulance, and not just one, but two helicopters! All ages learned a lot and
had fun! If you haven’t done so already, please ask your child about their
experience. Several of the service personnel were even able to stay and eat
lunch with our kids! Thank you, Mrs. Crosier, for a great lunch, going the
extra mile for our guests!
Just a reminder to families – please
sign in at the office if you are late for opening or coming in after
appointments. Also, if your child is sick, please call the office to let us
know. If your child needs to leave early, call the office or send in a written
note and sign them out at the office. This enables us to keep track of all our
students and would be vital if an emergency ever occurs. Thank you!
Scrip Card FUNdraiser
Winners: The following
families helped us earn $100 by purchasing over 10 cards each: Boyd, Price,
Rehmer, Koeller, and Bussey. Their children each received a giant candy bar for
their efforts. Congratulations to the Boyd family for selling the most cards!
They received a $10 Pizza Hut card. Keep up the good work as we earn money for
our school!
Boston
Fundraiser: El Tapatio –
Thursday – 5-9 pm: Come support our students as they raise money
for the Boston trip. El Tapatio will donate a percentage from each ticket and
from donations; they do not earn tips.
Spirit Day: Friday – Come to school dressed in ACS apparel or
school colors. This is to show our support and excitement for our varsity teams
as they head to Columbia on Saturday for a tournament!
High School Students and Parents: There are two opportunities coming up for students to
explore colleges. Tuesday, Sept 24,
is college and career day at State Fair Community College. This event is
typically in the morning. Another is Monday,
Sept 30, in Shawnee, Kansas. This is the KC Christian College Fair from 6-8
pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to see several Christian colleges at once.
If you are interested in the KC Christian College Fair, please call the office
and I will try to gather a group to attend.

Hello ACS,
We
are so excited to be having a day when emergency service vehicles and personnel
will be here! We will have a patrol car, an ambulance, a fire truck, and a
helicopter. We invite any and all family
to join us for this exciting event! This will be an excellent opportunity for
all age groups to see and hear from each department. They will be here from
8:30-11:30 am. Students will be divided into 4 groups and visiting each station
for about 20 minutes. Grades 6-12 will be from 8:30-9:45 am and grades K-5 will
be from 9:45-11:25 am. A big thank you goes to Brian and Erica Daniel for coordinating
this event!
I would like to remind parents when
they send in checks to please mark in the memo line what each check if going
towards. We handle several different accounts and purchases throughout the year
and this would be a huge help. Thanks!
Summer Reading
Winners:
Congratulations to Shiloh Conroy for being our overall winner this year! Her
prize was a nook given by an anonymous donor! Our other top readers for each
group were as follows: elementary- Autumn Sparks, junior high- Victoria Sparks,
and high school- Joel Reed. A paper was sent home listing the top 3 winners in
each division and the top 10 readers overall. Thank you also to those who
donated prizes: Reader’s World, Shepherd’s Place, Mighty Melt, Mazzio’s Pizza,
Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell! Please thank those businesses if you get a chance!
Box Tops: Summer
Contest Winners:
Congratulations to Victoria Sparks for being the top earner; she will receive a
free school t-shirt! The top earning class was the 2nd grade! The
next three top classes (K, 4, & 6) were only 20 box tops apart in total
numbers; that’s a close contest! We collected 1659 box tops which is $166 for
ACS! Great job!! Mrs. Bessert would like your ideas for the September contest.
Please put suggestions in the box top “box” in the office and she will collect
them Friday, September 20.

explore colleges. Tuesday, Sept 24, is college and career day at State Fair

know ahead of time. We would love to see any available parents join us. This
Monday our chapel time will be led by Heartland Christian College, Newark,
Missouri. Chapel time is 8:15-9:00 am.

depending when you read the bulletin lol)! It has been a great week! I am so
proud of all our new teachers and students. The transition has gone quite well!
Everyone I spoke with had a wonderful first few days.
Thank you all for helping

Thank you for turning in all the numerous forms from

appreciate these to be turned in by Monday.
Soccer and Volleyball: Tonight are our first home games! We encourage
everyone to come out and support our teams!
Summer
Reading: All reading logs need to be turned in to your reading
teachers. We will be awarding prizes on Friday, September 13.
Spirit Days: Spirit Days are listed in the event calendar. On these days, we
encourage students and teachers to wear ACS gear or school colors – red, black,
and white. Hats are also allowed, per teacher discretion. We try to coordinate spirit
days with our home sporting games. Our next Spirit Day is Friday, Sept. 13.
Boston Committee: 8th
and 9th grade parents – Meeting Thursday, Sept. 12, 6 pm at
Calvary Episcopal Church (713 S. Ohio, Sedalia). They will be going over
fundraiser ideas. It is vital for everyone to attend this first meeting so that
they will know who is committed to participating in fundraising and to going on
the trip. A date for the trip needs to be set soon; so please bring your
calendars for 2014.
Box Tops: Bring It Back! – Our box top contests begin right away! For the person

Happy Summer ACS,
God always wants to keep us on our toes and on our knees!
We praise God that we have hired a Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Debra States. Debra
is working on her education degree later in life and is excited to have a
life-long dream come true by teaching Kindergarten. She just completed her
associate’s degree in education this spring.
We need prayers for another position however. Renie Neske,
who we hired this summer, will not be able to teach after all. She was teaching
a variety of classes in grades 5th-7th. We are currently
looking to fill her position. If you know of someone, please have them contact
the office at 827-4700. We know God works all things according to His good
purpose!
School supply lists will be handed out at the skating
party. We will be posting them on the website as well. Our goal is to have them
completed in time for tax free shopping weekend. Yes, it’s that time already!
Summer Skating Party: Monday, July
29 – 6-8 pm at the Wheel Thing. This is our annual summer get-together! Please
bring snacks to share. This is a great time to see friends and meet new
classmates!
Attention All Athletes: Sports Physicals – Tuesday, Aug. 6, 4:30 pm – This is a free sport physical for all
ACS athletes, regardless of sport. Dr. Don Allcorn and Dr. John Drenon
volunteer their time to provide us this invaluable service. If you cannot make
it, you will need to obtain the physical form from your coach or the athletic
director, Cindy Rieckhoff, and have your physician fill it out before you can
play in a game. Thank you!
Parent Volunteer Jobs: Let’s not forget that it takes all of us to run ACS!
If you have not volunteered for your family’s minimum of 3 points, please click
on the parent job list link and do so today!

Happy Summer ACS,
As we approach Independence Day, I would like to say
thank you to all our military families who have sacrificed to protect our
country’s freedom! It is not a sacrifice taken lightly! May God bless you all!
May we also continue to pray for our country and our leadership as we see our
nation continually moving away from Christ and His principles.
As is the nature of Applewood, things change quickly. Mrs.
Tisha Sparks has decided to pursue a career in the Sedalia school district; we
wish her God’s blessings! Now, we are in need of a Kindergarten teacher. If you
know of someone who may be interested, please have them contact us as soon as
possible. Thanks! Your prayers are always needed and appreciated!
Summer Skating Party: Monday, July
29 – 6-8 pm at the Wheel Thing. This is our annual summer get-together! The
family club switched venues from the pool due to the very hot weather we have
experienced the last few years. It’s also nice to have a change of pace every
now and then! We are allowed to bring snacks. This is a great time to see
friends and meet new classmates!
Thank you!
Events Calendar: If you have not done so already, please check out the calendar page.
Most all events are already listed for the up-coming school year, even sporting
events. Games will be added as they are finalized with the competing schools.

Greetings Applewood Family,
Happy summer, ACS! I hope everyone is enjoying their time
off from school! I have just a few reminders for the summer in this month’s
bulletin. First, please remember to be reading for the summer reading program.
If you have forgotten what that entails, you may click the scrolling link on
the home page.
Second, June is the month for returning students/families
to pay their September tuition payments. This ensures your spot is held for the
up-coming school year. Please remember that tuition has been raised to $155 per
student and not to follow the amount on your coupon sheet. Thank you!
Third, if you know of someone who may be interested in
attending ACS, please have them look at the website, download a student
application, or call the office at 827-4700. We are in the office weekly and
will be checking messages. Below is a list of which grades have openings this
fall and the number of students that we could add to that grade.
Finally, be looking for a postcard to arrive from family
club within the next few weeks. This will have the dates of our summer get
together (which may be a skating party, instead of a pool party), our new
student/family orientation, ACS Kick-off, and the first day of school! You may
also check the website calendar for dates and times! God bless as you enjoy the
rest of summer!!
Student Openings: The following is a list of all grades and the number
of students that grade could add to reach our capacity of 8 students: Kindergarten
– 4; 1st grade – 4; 3rd grade – 6; 4th grade –
3; 5th grade – 5; 7th grade – 3; 8th grade –
3; 9th grade – 4.
The following grades are full
with 8 students in each grade: 2nd, 6th, 10th,
and 11th.
If you know of someone who
may be interested, please ask them to contact the office. Also, you could let
your churches know that we have openings for the fall. Thank you! Parent Job List: During the summer is when parents have an opportunity to review their volunteer positions. The list in now open and people are checking to see where they would like to serve for this coming school year. All you need to do is click on the parent job list icon on the home page. This will take you to the most current listing. Once you find a job that interests you, simply click it and it will automatically send the school an email. Lorna Sparks will then contact you concerning the job and you should see your name in the slot once all has been verified. This is a first-come, first-serve type of choosing so please have other choices in mind if your first pick is taken. We could not offer all we do without our wonderful parents and their dedicated participation!! God bless you for being involved in your children's lives and their education!!
Student Council: Meals on Wheels – June 24-28 – If you have not already contacted Lisa
Cloud, please do so concerning your participation in helping meals on wheels

Greetings Applewood Family,
We have a praise report! As of today, we have filled all
of our teaching positions! We welcome all of our new teachers for this coming
school year: Mrs. Linda Bell, Mrs. Robin Blake, Mrs. Anna Boyd, and Mrs. Renie
Neske. I know God has great things in store for us all!!
We still have a few families who have not turned in books
or picked up grade cards. During the summer, Mrs. Hiller and I are in the
office but we do not have regular office hours. We need you to please make
arrangements with one of us to turn in your books or pay any outstanding fees
before we are able to give out your grade cards.
Book Fee:
Just a reminder that our May payment is the book fee payment. Please remember
that the book fee has gone up and your current payment sheet is not correct.
The correct fee is $165 per student. Thank you!
June Payments: In June, all of our returning families need to pay their September
tuition payment. This enables us to hold your class spot for the up-coming
school year. If this is not paid by June 30, or arrangements made to be paid,
we will consider that spot open for any new applicants. Also, please pay the
new tuition rates when sending in your payment. The tuition for each student is
now $155. Thank you!

Greetings Applewood Family,
Well, school is officially over today! The kids are busy
working around the school cleaning and contributing to the well-being of ACS
and Maplewood Church as I write! It is quite the chaos of activity!
We thank our families and students for such a wonderful
year! We have seen great success and growth in all grades! As we enter the
summer months, please spend time reading with your kids, spend time enjoying each
other, and spend time glorifying God! Also, each month I will be posting a new
bulletin with any up-coming information; when I do, I will notify you through
email!
Again, thanks for a great year!!
Book Turn In/ Grade Cards Out: Friday, May 17
at 9 am – 12 pm – We will be here during this morning time frame and you
may come when most convenient for you. This is when students return all non-consumable
books. Books where the child’s name is written in marker are theirs to keep.
All others need to be checked for eraser marks, stray papers, etc. and turned
in May 17. Once books are returned and all outstanding fees are paid, students
will receive their grade cards.
Varsity Boys Soccer Informational Meeting: Thursday,
May 16 at 6 pm - Paul Klover Field,
covered shelter near the lake – This is for all boys interested in playing
soccer in the fall. It is a student/parent informational meeting. Boys, bring
your running shoes as the team will run after the meeting.
Box Tops Winners – April/May: Autumn and Victoria Sparks tied with the 980 box tops
each! Alex Luvin came in second with 360 box tops. Our top grade winner was the
5th grade with 1007 box tops! Overall, our school collected 9827 box
tops throughout the year!! And we’re not stopping for the summer! Bring it Back Promotion – the top
earner will win a one-of-a-kind ACS t-shirt, the top class will get a party the
first week of school!
