Greetings ACS,
School is up and running at
break-neck speed! Well, maybe not break-neck speed, but that is how we feel in
the office the first few weeks of school. We have gotten off to a great start.
Everything and everyone seems to be transitioning quite smoothly. If you ever
have a question or issue, please do not hesitate to speak with someone in the
office. We want our year to continue to be easy and efficient for everyone.
The family club met this week
and elected officers for this year. They are the following: Jacinda Wassam,
president; Pam Breid, vice-president; Amy Furrey, secretary; and Mindy Rehmer,
treasurer. We are excited about all the families that are involved this year!
It looks to be our best year of participation! Please do not forget about the
Scrip card program. It is our hope that this program will be a success, this
way the family club will not need any other type of fundraiser.
Kick-Off Forms: Parents, please look through your kick-off folders for all paperwork
that needed to be turned in. We are still missing forms from several families.
Papa John’s Pizza Fundraiser for Boston: Wednesday, Sept.
19 if you order from Papa John’s, they will donate a percentage back to the
school. The monies will be used for the 8th grade Boston trip.
Please look for flyers in your child’s red folder and pass them out to family
and friends. Purchase Scrip cards from the Family Club beforehand and raise
money for the entire school!
Student Council ACS Apparel: Order forms are due Friday, Sept. 21. If you need an order form, there are extras in the
office.
See You at the Pole: Wednesday, Sept.
26, we will be observing See You at the Pole, a national time of prayer for
our schools and nation. The theme this year is “Awaken” and the theme verse is
Eph. 3:14-21. Student Council Sentinels are planning our activities for that
morning. We will be meeting at 8:15 am after opening. All parents are invited
to join us.
Calendar Change: Per our teacher’s request, we are switching the date for
parent/teacher conferences in the fall. They will be Monday, Oct. 29, instead of Tuesday, Oct. 30.
This is a great night for all parents to come and speak one on one with each of
your child’s teachers. You will also receive your first quarter grade card
during this evening.
Student Council News: StuCo members don’t forget the social at the Sims’
home, Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 pm. Our
night to work at the Community Café is Oct.
2. The SSLC food drive dates are Oct.
20 and 24.
Family Mission/ Leaning Opportunity: Sonlight Publishing and Far East Broadcasting Company
have partnered to provide a learning adventure and mission opportunity. They
are presenting a video adventure each Tuesday for 6 weeks exploring 4 countries
and 5 cultural belief systems through video, photos, family devotionals, fun
facts, maps, and stories. Check out www.phoenixphaxx.com.
The program begins on Sept. 25. Register today, Sept. 14 to receive a Pocket Guide before the launch date.
They are also striving to raise money to send wind up or battery powered radios
to villages in Asia. For every dollar given, Sonlight will match
dollar-for-dollar, up to $150,000 in hopes of reaching 250,000 people. (I
looked at the sight myself and it looks quite interesting and fun!)
Christian College Fair: This is a wonderful college fair for anyone
interested. Hosted at Maranatha Christian Academy, 15000 West 63rd,
Shawnee, KS – Monday, Sept. 24,
6 pm-8 pm. There is another
one in St. Louis, MO, Sunday, Oct. 21.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott Young have volunteered to drive anyone interested to the
fair in St. Louis. Please contact the office if you are interested in going
with the Youngs.
