Week of Nov. 23 - 27

Parents,  this has been a busy week for Applewood Christian School.  The Parent-Teacher Conference was a success with only one family not able to attend.  It is always a wonderful opportunity for me to get to sit down with the parents of my students and brag on their strengths and give suggestions for improving on their weaknesses.

Many of our high school students went to Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO for the 2009 SBU/ACSI College Preparatory Championships.  The SBU/ACSI CPC is one of the premier academic competitions for Christian schools in the Midwest. All Christian high schools are invited to participate and are divided into a large and small school division (based on enrollment).  The students represented us well!  We earned second place overall in the Small School division!  The Lady Mustangs won first place in the basketball shoot-out.  And the following awards were received by individual students:
Music Competition – Best of Show                 Kate Herrington (gr.9)
                              Academic Competiton:
English (grammar) test – 1st Place        Melissa Backe (gr.12)
English (grammar) test – 5th  Place       Ashton Allcorn (gr. 12)
                             Art Competition:
1st Place                                             Hannah Young (gr. 12)
2nd Place                                            Katie Rieckhoff (gr. 9)
4th Place                                             Hannah Young (gr. 12)
6th Place                                             Katie Rieckhoff (gr. 9)

Many of the other students did very well on their academic testing though they did not score high enough for an award.  We are very proud of all of you!

This Wednesday is the Thanksgiving Feast.  The Feast has become a tradition at ACS and is a fond memory for many of the families that have passed through ACS.  Cindy Barrett, one of the founding members, said that it began 21 yrs. as an opportunity to celebrate the holiday with “family” as each of the three families lived away from their extended family.  The Feast carries on that tradition by asking ACS families to invite family and friends to join together in Thanksgiving for the things that God has blessed Applewood with throughout the year.  Many of our alumni and their families come back to join in the celebration.  The program begins at 11:30 with dinner starting around noon.  We look forward to sharing thankful hearts with all of you.

With thanksgiving,
Mrs. Young
