Week of Oct. 26 - 30

Happy Fall!
This is my favorite time of year.  The leaves are falling and many of God’s creation is settling down for a long nap (I wish I was one of them).
We just finished a great week of fun and information about the dangers of drugs.  We saw many great outfits throughout the week, especially Friday when each class was able to choose their own theme against drugs.  We saw a new side to the ninth grade class as they did a fantastic job all looking like nerds that day.  Christine and Hannah did a great job as well educating us about the hazards of the “legal drugs” of drinking alcohol and smoking.
We are all working hard to prepare for the upcoming fund raising dinner.  Mrs. Nelson, with the assistance of Mrs. Mabry, has been busy putting all the plans together.  She is asking that all families turn in their table guest roster tomorrow (Monday, Oct. 26) so they can assess the amount of tables and food that will be needed.  Mrs. Leon has been practicing with the 6th grade, they are doing a drama piece that involves sticks and black lights.  I can’t wait to see what they are up to!  Mrs. Koeller and her art students are working on creating two large trees to cover the walls that will showcase the photos that Mr. Greer just took of all the students and staff.  With all this work being done, I am excited to see what God will do on November 7th!

Have a great week!
Mrs. Young

Announcements:

Senior High Field Trip (gr. 9-12) – Tuesday, November 10 to the National Churchill Museum.  Many of our students have not returned their permission slip and money, they must be turned in by Monday.  Homework is suspended for the day making this a mandatory event.  Students are excused if they have a college class on that day.

ACS t-shirts, crew sweatshirts, hoodies (with or without zipper), and sweat pants orders must be turned  into the office by Monday, Oct. 26th.  Extra order forms are available in the office.

11Cent Project – The student council is raising money for the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund.  Students are encouraged to bring in eleven cents (or more) to put towards the fund.  We are having a competition – boys verses girls!  Whoever brings in the most money by Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, wins the privilege of throwing a pie in the face of a student or teacher of the opposite gender.  Students will have the opportunity to turn in money each day during Opening.

High School students serving at Fund Raising Dinner – Students will need to wear black or blue slacks and a white shirt (no t-shirts).  See Mrs. Young with questions.

Tutoring – After the release of 1st quarter grades, the student council mentoring committee will be offering a tutoring program for students in grades K – 12.  If you are interested in having your student tutored in a specific subject, or would like them to have help in how to study, call Kasey Blake 221-8592 and leave a message.

Open Door Canned Food Drive – Student council members will be working side by side with student council members from Sacred Heart and Smith-Cotton in collecting canned goods to stock Open Door for the coming holiday season.  Parents interested in donating food for this event can bring canned foods into the office on Monday or Wednesday.  Just a reminder to Stuco members that students need to sign up for shifts (5-6:30 or 6:30 – 8) for Wednesday.

Needs:
We are still in need of parents who would be willing to be a substitute teacher.  Our teachers leave detailed directions for what students are required to do.  If you are interested please call the office.

Inexpensive apples for decoration for the fund raising dinner.

Prayer Requests:

  1. Pray for the cast of Judgment House for their continued good health and strength.  Pray for the individuals that make decisions at Judgment House that God would take that decision and help it to grow into a life for His service.

  2. Pray for our students that have been called to make a deeper commitment to their faith through Judgment House and Hell House and that it would be a true commitment, not one based on heightened emotions.

  3. Pray for our varsity volleyball team as they compete in a tournament in Wichita, Kansas this week.

  4. Pray for the students and teachers that have been sick and that God protect the school from further illness.

  5. Pray for the Fund Raising dinner that it would be a success in that we touch the lives God desires us to touch that night.
