ACS Families,
It is hard to believe that the school year is almost at an end. This week we will be celebrating with two Applewood groups, the beginning of their new journeys. The kindergarten class is graduating on Tuesday. We will also take time to recognize MAACS accomplishments, Book-It, and departing teachers. It is an evening for all of Applewood not just the 5 kindergarten families. On Saturday, we will commission the ACS Class of 2009 to go out into the world and do great things for Christ. Don’t miss out on the cake and the festivities!
As the summer progresses, I will communicate with ACS families via the web site (bulletin & calendar), One-Call, and email. If you did not receive an email today about the spirit day, please check with the office to make sure we have your correct email address. Please pay close attention to the information below on the end of the school year requirements.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Young
Spirit Day Monday – Wacky Hair or Hide in your Hat Day! Students are allowed to color, cut, or shape their hair any way they want to as long as their hair returns to school standards by Wednesday. If they just want to slap a hat on their head instead that is fine too.
Clean Up Day Thursday, May 14 beginning at 8:00am and ending at noon. If you were not able to make the last clean up day, please be sure to attend this one. Just a reminder, students in grades 6 – 12 are expected to help with clean up. Students in grades K – 5 are welcome to work alongside their parent. Parents who are available are encouraged to join us.
Summer Reading Program – The Academic Committee has created a new summer reading program for ACS students to help improve their reading skills. The reading program for high school students was introduced last week. This week we will be releasing the details for the junior high and elementary levels. Please look for this information to come home with your student.
May Tuition – We do not collect tuition in May, instead we collect book fees ($155 per student) for the next school year. Also, September’s tuition is due in June to reserve your student’s spot for the 2009-2010 school year.
Kindergarten Graduation – Tuesday, May 12 at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. We will be recognizing the Class of 2021, as well as Book-It and MAACS awards, and will be followed by a reception for the graduates in the AWANA room. We encourage the whole ACS family to attend.
Last Day of School – We are having a special finale to the 2008-09 school year, a Mark Twain literary festival put on by the junior and senior high students! School will start for elementary students at 12:00pm. Junior and Senior high will meet in the morning for set up (your lit teacher will give you the details). The school day will end at 4:00pm.
Book Turn In, Friday, May 15 - Mrs. Bergman will be located in the ROC to collect books. Soft cover books with the student’s name written on the front are consumables and do not need to be turned in. All other books will need to be turned in at that time. Book mobile books need to be turned in. Solution manuals rented to parents also need to be turned in. Please be sure to erase all writing inside the books before you turn them in.
Final Report Cards and Iowa Basics Results – Students will receive their final report cards and their results of their achievement testing in the mail in two weeks when the following items are met: All books turned in and all outstanding debts to the school paid up.
The Class of 2009 would like to formally invite our entire Applewood family to attend their graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 16 at 3:00pm in the ROC. Reception to follow.
