Week of March 23 - 27

Hello ACS Families,
School is back to normal with all grades back in class.  Both mission teams had incredible experiences last week.
The local mission group assisted Birthright on Monday by moving all the articles for sale from their storage facility over to Our Savior Lutheran Church, then organized and priced the articles.  On Friday they assisted with the actual sale and then boxed up what ever was left over for the people at Open Door.  Mrs. Wester said that thanks to the ACS students, this year the set up went smoother than it had ever went before.  On Wednesday the group went to the Union City Mission in Kansas City.  There the students toured the facility, served lunch to homeless people, washed dishes, organized the large pantry where they store the food, cleaned out the vans that they use to pick people up, cleaned up the youth room, and made dinner that evening.  At the facility they met a family with 10 children.  The students were impressed with how polite and well behaved the children were.  The students are interested in returning again, perhaps this summer.
The Honduras team had a wonderful experience and took many pictures that are being organized into a slide show that will be shown at chapel on April 22nd.  On one day, the students had to hike a mountain to a village where they did a VBS program.  They toured a banana plantation another day.  They had a special evening set aside for the local missionaries and their families where they made a meal for them, Rhiannon did a special dance performance, Hannah clowned and made balloons, and the team fellowshipped and encouraged the missionaries.  For most of their stay, they held VBS classes and sports clinics for the students in the public schools.  They also constructed a house for a family.  The thing that stands out in the students minds is how fascinated the Honduran children were with all of them.  Many of the pictures I saw were of our students being surrounded by the children, playing with the children, and holding the children.
Hearing the stories of the students and their experiences encourages me.  ACS desires for our students to learn to share the gospel and give of themselves as servants for others.  Our students worked hard last week and they were blessed by their efforts.  They learned to rely heavily on God for their strength.  I pray that the lessons they have learned last week will stay with them always.

Yours In Christ,
Mrs. Young
