Bulletin

Week of December 15 - 19

Hello Parents,
Last week was a busy one.  Wednesday in chapel we had a special guest.  Hannah Yonce, a 7th grade student Sacred Heart, came to tell about her involvement with the Forest Avenue Homeless Shelter and Church in Kansas City.  She has been going to Forest Ave. every Christmas for the last few years bringing presents and food for the people there.  Our students listened intently as Hannah described the people in need and how each had touched her life as well.  To show our support of Hannah and the work she is doing at the shelter, we are asking that families who would like to show their appreciation for your child’s teacher to give a monetary donation instead of a teacher gift.  These donations will be collected in the office and then sent to Forest Ave.

Friday, the new discipline procedure that the board approved Monday was discussed with the junior and senior high.  The students asked many good questions that challenged their fellow Christian students. The administration hopes that this new procedure will not only bring more consistency to discipline but will give students more thorough guidelines on what type of behavior is expected of them.  Parents need to review this new procedure.  It can be read on the web site in the Downloads section.

Your ACS staff hope that the students and their families will have a blessed and relaxing Christmas break.  Don’t forget to spend time each day in worship and prayer for the greatest of all gifts – Jesus.

Yours In Christ,
Mrs. Young

Announcements:

Snow Day Procedure.  School cancellation will be announced via the One Call phone message and is posted on the web home page.  It is also announced on the following radio stations:  Spirit FM (89.9, 89.7, 92.1, or 107.7) and KIX FM (105.7), and KSIS AM (1050).  Students are required to look up their homework on each of their teachers’ pages on the web site.  All assignments will be posted by 10:00 am each day.  Work is due the next school day.

Snow Day Procedure for Teachers.  Teachers need to post student assignments on their blog page no later than 10:00am on the snow day.  Please post work for BOTH the snow day and the next homeschool day on the same blog to minimize confusion.  If you do not have your password or have access to a computer please contact Mrs. Young to put your assignment on the web site.

Each student needs to bring their exchange present into school by Wednesday with name of student it is being given to written on the outside of the gift.  If your child has forgotten who they have for the exchange please contact their elementary teacher or the office (grades 4 – 12). Monetary limits for the grades are as follows:
                                       Grades K – 4       $7.00
                                       Grades 5 – 8      $10.00
                                       Grades 9 – 12    $13.00

Dec. 19 is Christmas party day at school.  School starts on time at 8:00am and ends at noon.  Students do not need to bring a lunch but we are asking each family to bring in a snack to share.  If your last name begins with A – M please bring in a sweat treat.  If your last name begins with N – Z please bring in a healthy snack (crackers & cheese, fruit, chex mix, etc.)  Homeroom moms need to prepare a craft or game for that day and need to be at school by 8:00.

During the Christmas break, please save or be looking for big cardboard boxes.  We like to have them in the AWANA room for the elementary students to build into house and tunnels during the winter months when they can’t go outside.

We are still needing 3 drivers to deliver Meals on Wheels Wednesday, Dec. 31st.   If you can help call the office.

The One Call system has been in effect for a week.  All phone numbers have been taken from the school directory.  If they are they incorrect please contact the office and update your information.  One call will be used to notify school cancellations, as well as sports cancellations and special reminders and notices.
