Bulletin

Week of Feb. 11 - 16

Hi ACS Families!

There is a lot on our plate this week.  Please be sure that you check the bulletin each week to make sure you don’t miss anything.

Mrs. Y

Valentine’s Day – This Thursday we will meet at Jesters at 1:00 pm and stay until 3:00.  Cost for each student is $2.50.  Family and friends are welcome.  Jester’s is located on Hwy 65 south of Lincoln.  There is an inside play place and other arcade games.  Students wishing to play the arcade games will need to bring additional money.  Each family is asked to bring a snack to share.  If your last name begins with A – M, please bring a healthy snack.  If your last name begins with N – Y, please bring a sweet snack.  We will provide the drinks and the paper products.  Students will only be assigned math and studying for tests so that they are able to attend the Valentine’s Day Party.

Valentine’s Day Treats!!!!  The 8 & 9 Grade classes are selling lollipops to raise money for their educational trip to Boston, MA, this spring.  Our delicious, fruity lollipops come wrapped with a decorative ribbon and will be hand delivered on Friday, February 15.  These lollipops are $1.25 each or buy 4 and get 1 FREE!  Simply place your order on the forms that will be sent out tomorrow and turn into the office by Wednesday, February, 13, and we will deliver the special treat on Friday, Feb. 15.  You must pay when placing your order and complete one order form for each lollipopWhat a great way to give sweet treats to those special friends, teachers, parents, or classmates!

Valentine Cards – An updated school roster of all students and teachers went home last Friday.  Students are welcome to give cards to their class, their friends, or everyone in the school.  It is up to them.  Each student and teacher will have a Valentine’s bag made by the art classes to put their cards into.  We ask that if your child does want to give a card to every student in the school; that you send the cards in either packaged by grade, or merely sign them and don’t address them.  Students are welcome to attach treats to the cards as well.  Cards will be exchanged on Friday, Feb. 15.

Mid Terms Reports – Will go out this Wednesday.

Senior Recognition – Feb. 22 at 6:15.  We will recognize the seniors on our basketball team.

Homecoming Events – Come out and celebrate Applewood’s twentieth year educating future Christian leaders!  Come and meet alumni from 1997 to 2007, and see how God has been bringing about His will through ACS. Here is the schedule of events for February 23.

12:00 pm   Alumni Recognition ceremony

12:15 pm   Varsity Girls Basketball game vs. Fulton

7:00 pm   Homecoming Dance for grades 6 – 12, alumni, and parents.  Dress code for this event is nice pants and a nice shirt or a dress.  NO JEANS!  Admission fee is one bottle of soda or juice of your choice.  [Though this is being sponsored by the Young’s in celebration of Hannah’s 16 birthday, gifts are not necessary.]

S.T.A.N.D. (Sedalia Taking A New Direction) – (I was a week ahead of myself.)  The students from STAND will be coming to talk to our students about staying away from drugs this Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the sanctuary.  As always, parents are welcome to attend.

Help With Yearbook – So far we have not gotten any volunteers to help with the yearbook.  So Pam Meusborn has set a couple in school work days.  Friday, Feb. 15 and Monday, Feb. 18 we are asking any parents that are available to come from 12:30 – 3:30 to help work on the Yearbook.  If you can be there call Pam at 827-7038.  If we do not get any help, we will cancel the yearbook for this year.

Parent’s Meeting for the Boston Trip – Parents of students in grades 8 & 9 are asked to attend an important working meeting tomorrow at 5:00pm in the youth room.  Please bring your calendars.

Students for hire - After spending this school year learning more about our great country, the 8th & 9th grade classes are continuing the tradition of taking an educational trip to Boston, MA, this spring.  They are in need of ways to make some money to offset their expenses.  If you know of a person or business that could use our services, in return for a donation, please have them contact Darla Lansing.

Event Calendar - Parents and students are encouraged to check the event calendar regularly to be sure they are up to date on any changes in dates or times of events, especially sports.  Players should also check Mr. Lansing’s blog prior to games to ensure that you know the proper directions for the games.

Sports Fees - There are still some families that have not paid their basketball participation fees or contacted Bill for arrangements.  The sports program needs these funds in order to continue to function this season.  Prompt payment is appreciated.  ACS students - $55, Non-ACS students - $65.

Literature Festival – A field trip is being scheduled for Grades 4 – 6 on March 11 to the Literature Festival held at UCM. More info to follow.

Student Looking for Help If you have any old appliances, vehicles, or scrap metal that you want to get rid of, please contact Holly Clancy at 547-3956.  They would be willing to dispose of it for you so that they can help pay for Jamiann’s tuition.

Dangerous Books!  - Conversations with God and Conversations with God for Teens, written by Neale D. Walsch.. They sound harmless enough by their titles alone. The books have been on the New York Times best sellers list for a number of weeks.  The author answers various questions asked by kids using the "voice of God". However, the "answers" that he gives are not Bible-based and go against the word of God.
