2008 Bible, Academic, and Fine Arts Competition
For the 2007-2008 school year, Applewood Christian School has joined the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS). Being a part of the this national organization as well as the Missouri Association of Christian Schools (MACS) provides Applewood students, teachers, and administrators with a number of opportunities one of which is the opportunity to VOLUNTARILY participate in the Mid-America Association of Christian Schools (MAACS) 2008 Bible, Academic, and Fine Arts Competition. Taking advantage of this opportunity assists students in developing and utilizing their God-given gifts and abilities to the glory of God while competing with students from a ten state area.
This competition is quite different from the one in which Applewood participated last year. The MAACS event consists of three event dates which are as follows:
February 26-Academic Testing Day
Location: Applewood Christian School
Grades 4-12
March 12-14-Junior/Senior High Performance Event
Location: Tri-City Christian School-Independence, MO)
Grades 7-12
April 3-4-Elementary Performance Event
Location: Tri-City Christian School-Independence, MO
Grades 4-6
*April 8-10-AACS National Competition
Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC
(Top-ranking high school students only)
A great variety of individual and group competition categories within five major areas (Bible, Art, Speech, Music, and Academics) will be available. At this point it is important to know the students who are INTERESTED (any interest at all-a commitment is not required at this time) and their categories of interest. Individuals may enter more than one category, however Applewood is limited in some areas as to the number of entries we may send in each category.
Please list your student(s) name(s) if he or she is a student in one of the eligible grades (4-12). Then select each students areas of interest or select “Does not wish to participate.” Again, participation in this event is totally voluntary, however EVERY form needs to be returned whether the student is participating or not.

As with any special program offered to Applewood students, it will require “the body” working together to carry it out in a way that glorifies God and provides the best possible experience to our students. I am praying now that God will call forth the workers needed and will give them a willingness to offer their time and talents in helping out with this program. Please prayerfully consider how the Lord might be calling you to participate-whether you have a child entering the competition or not. Please note if you are willing to help in one of the following areas:

In closing, it is very important that every student, parent, and teacher be given the opportunity to be involved in this event. To assure that everyone has received this information we will be keeping track of the forms as they are returned. If your form is not returned by the due date, you will be personally contacted to confirm that you did receive the form. (Again, we do not want to miss anyone.) Please help us in conserving our precious resources---volunteers’ time---by promptly responding. The survey portion of this form (page 2) should be placed in the box of Brenda Allcorn located in the ROC office or the needed information emailed to Brenda (dallcorn@iland.net) NO LATER THAN MONDAY, DECEMBER 3.
Please keep this event and the students and workers involved in your prayers. May our entire body grow in its unity and usefulness to the Lord through this ministry to our students.
In His service,
Brenda Allcorn
MAACS School Coordinator
NOTE: To avoid confusion and misinformation please direct all questions regarding the MAACS competiton at this time to Brenda Allcorn (287-2736) or dallcorn@iland.net. In the near future, we hope to add category coordinators who will field questions in their specific areas. Again, at this time, direct questions only to the MAACS School Coordinator, Brenda Allcorn.
