Hi ACS Families,

Great News!  Mayor Bob Wasson, mayor of Sedalia is coming to our fundraising dinner on Nov. 17!

Plans have been going smoothly for our fund raising dinner.  Our speaker is secured, Debbie Marsh and her kitchen committee have been talking menus, and Maplewood church has partnered with us in bringing in the speaker.  We are so excited to see what God is going to do through this event.

I know I went through all of this at the Kick-Off but let me explain again the fundraising dinner and the part you play in it.

The school board has felt that in order to continue to keep costs down at ACS, we needed to put on a large scale fund raising event.  After careful consideration, it was decided that a dinner with a guest speaker who talked about the importance of Christian education would be just what we needed to attain our two goals:  (1) To raise yearly support for our school; and (2) To increase community awareness of Applewood Christian School and Christian education on a whole.  We chose Saturday, November 17 to host this event.

Our speaker for the evening is Gabe Allen, who comes from Wall Builders Inc.  Wall Builders is an organization dedicated to presenting America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built.  Wall Builders is a national pro-family organization which distributes historical, legal, and statistical information; and helps citizens become active in their local schools and communities. Their founder and president, David Barton is an author and historian.  His exhaustive research (from original writings) on the Founding Era has rendered him an expert in this field, and consequently he serves as consultant to state and federal legislators; has participated in several cases at the Supreme Court; was involved in the development of the History/Social Studies standards for both Texas and California students; and has contributed to projects and legislation set forth by countless other groups, individuals, and legislators across the country.

Our drama teacher, Mrs. Leon has been working on a drama presentation for that night as well.  We will have tables set up displaying the curriculum we use.  Art projects will line the walls.  One of ACS’s own alumni will introduce our guest speaker.

In your Kick Off packet, was a piece of yellow cardstock that is printed with 8 tickets.  (Please cut these tickets apart J)  Your part in this event is to invite 6 people to join you at our dinner.  You will be the host of your 8 person table and will be there early to greet your guests as they arrive for the evening.  The cost will be taken care of by ACS.

Who should you invite?  There are three groups of people that we feel would be interested in attending the dinner:

1.    Those individuals that would be interested in partnering with us financially.

2.    Those individuals that have children and are interested in what Christian education has to offer.

3.    Members of our community that have heard about ACS but need to know more about what we are doing.  Like Mayor Wasson!

I encourage you not to wait to invite your guests.   Everyone is busy these days and schedules fill up fast.  Invite your guests now!  We will have place cards at the tables and will need to know your guests names.   Please email your list of guests to me at yngheart@charter.net so that we will know who you are bringing.  I would like your list of names sent to me no later than Oct. 15.

We are asking EVERY family to participate in this event.   I can not stress the importance that you play in making this event a success.  Without everyone’s involvement and those you invite, there will be no fund raising and no greater awareness of Christian education in our area.  We are counting on you!

Snack Attack Cards – Family Club is selling these cards for purchasing food at the concession stand during home games.  This allows parents to send a card with the child instead of money.  Snack Attack cards sell for $5.00 or $10.00.

Talent Show/Spaghetti Dinner Tickets – We will be sending home order forms for tickets on Monday.  Let us know how many you want and please send in a check.

Family Club Fund Raiser – Your students will be coming home with a packet of information about this on Monday.  This was a huge success last year and we are excited to see what the kids will do this year!

Student Council Meeting – Wednesday right after school!

Meet You At The Pole.  We met last Wednesday, students, teachers and parents for a wonderful time of prayer and worship.

Late Breaking News!  The Volleyball and Soccer teams participated in the Christian Fellowship Mid-Missouri tournament on Friday and Saturday and made ACS history.  For the first time participating in this tournament, the Lady Mustangs earned their place to compete in the tournament after winning 2 games and losing 1 game in pool play.  They lost their first game but it was extremely close.  The Mustang soccer team did a great job and took home the first place trophy!  Never before has the Mustang soccer team ever gotten so far in a tournament.  We are so proud of our Mustangs!

Yours In Christ,

Pamela Young
